You making dry mead or sweet mead? I made a mead once with 13 lbs of honey and 9lbs of frozen strawberries; I used champagne yeast, so it was dry. The strawberries came through a little in the taste, but alot in the aroma. I let it sit in the closet for almost two years before bottling it.
I knew another fellow who made mead with the addition of rose petals (that's where Rosemead comes from, Angelinos). A truly sublime experience, rosemead. ![]() The Rev |

i've gotten into gin the last year or so.. ever since i made dinner for the old lady who used to peep my peen when i'd pee outside.
she offered me a drink and all she had was gin. i didn't want to say no. before that i always felt it just tasted like cologne from all the juniper, but then i came to enjoy and appreciate the fragrant taste it adds to stuff and how fast it gets me uber drunk.

my recipe for "medium mead" said to use 4 gallons of water with 15 lbs of honey, but i had trouble measuring the honey so i had somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds. i thought i might add some honey after racking off if it seems too dry.
i was going to add cloves or oranges or something for flavor, but decided since this is my first honey from my first beehive, id just keep it str8. ive never tasted mead before so i dont know what to expect i was also thinking of taking some and adding honey before bottling it up in champagne bottles to get bubbly mead for 2011 celebrations. |

Mennonites...they used to do a Christmas thing in my old neighborhood. Those folks make the best candy, must be something about having no modern conveniences.

Hell yeah thats awesome. Is it just a mixed batch or do the bees have a specific source they get their nectar from? I guess what I'm trying to say is, is it wildflower honey or something more specific?
