I grew up hunting and most of the meat I ate in my life from 0-18 was sourced through that means. When I was 20 I stopped eating all meat. I wasn't in the process of being with what I was consuming and with some other life changes I decided to not eat meat anymore. Or in realities sake, what is within my control and moral code, to avoid eating it.

So I think I'm in the 'harvest' style hunting and not 'for fun, not eating the meat' hunting.

I think killing something and not using it is crazy.

Hunting is a lot of fun though. We'd spend a part of the summer hiking the area and seeing where game moved as well as set up a small blind for cover. Then a lot more time was spent getting good at archery and shooting rifles. There was LOTS of quality time there. HELL. I think I'd enjoy going to pop of a few cans now and again now for that matter.

IMO, There needs to be an element of respect for the taking of any life flora or fauna.

i admire ppl that hunt with bows and arrows over rifles. now THAT is true hunting imo. i'd imagine it takes quite a bit of skill to take down game with arrows.

definitely. I'd never kill something just to kill it (well except insects ofc)
But hunting for meat is enjoyable by the majority of mankind.

and, hunting with a bow is legit.
rifles are pretty much cheating.

So is laying out corn under a light, waiting for deer to walk up to snipe em.
and spot lighting. these are real problems around these parts

For sure man. It's hard as hell to pull a bow when a deer is 15-25 yards away, let alone hope the thing doesn't fall to the ground or jump when it hears the release. But it's a blessing when you get a good shot through the heart and lungs and it falls a few yards from the same spot. I've tracked blood too many hours for my a-hole Uncles to think the average person is responsible enough to wait for a good shot. An honest kill is part of the harvest, imo, not an added bonus.

I have no problem with hunting as long as its done legally. Not for shooting every endangered species just to have a rare trophy on the wall.
I would hope hunters use the meat. I have never gone. But really its their life the earth is for us all to enjoy. If that means shooting a deer then go ahead and shoot a deer.
Its natural interaction for animals to kill each other.

Where's your philosophy on this?!

Vladimir Putin Reaches Limit of Badassery By Shooting Whale with Crossbow

Vladimir Putin, the world's favorite He-man/Russian President shot a gray whale with a crossbow while riding in a rubber raft earlier today. This is getting ridiculous. How will he ever outdo himself now?

The AP reports:

Putin held his balance in a rubber boat that was being tossed around in choppy waters off the Kamchatka Peninsula, and eventually hit the whale with a special arrow designed to collect skin samples.

"I hit it at the fourth try!" a beaming Putin, kitted out in black-and-orange waterproof suit and black beanie, yelled to a camera crew from the boat.
A politician's every action is carefully calibrated to send a specific message. What is Putin trying to say by shooting the largest mammal on earth with a crossbow? Whale skin is an important source of alternative energy? Russian children are falling behind the rest of the world in their shooting-things-with-crossbows-from-rubber-rafts-ability? No, it is: I am a fucking badass before whom nature trembles like a 15-year-old girl before Justin Bieber.

Keep in mind, this is a man who has been photographed:

Putting out raging wildfires with his bare hands
Posing topless with a horse
Swimming with dolphins, cradling a massive rifle and arm wrestling
Doing a powerful butterfly stroke while swimming in a freezing Siberian lake
Riding a Harley Davidson for no apparent reason
This latest stunt was probably suggested by some Russian PR guy as a joke at the bar after a night of heavy drinking, only what he didn't realize was that Putin was hanging from the rafters doing shirtless pull-ups, overheard him and decided to take up the challenge.

But now that Putin has done the most badass thing imaginable, what else could he do? The only possible way Putin could top this would be to attack increasingly-more impressive animals with increasingly-dinkier weapons. Putin must travel back in time and kill a T. Rex using nothing but a Waterpik electronic toothbrush.

I hunt for the enjoyment of being one with nature and for the meat. I eat meat and beef chicken and pork gets old after awhile...it's nice to have some venison or rabbits in the freezer for something different.

and WTF is a Kaboo?

Join the army if you like hunting. At least the other team has weapons to defend themselves against you.

Killing something for sport is just narcissistic in my opinion. When I was 18 I was painting for this dude who had one room dedicated to the big game he "took down" (big fucking deal, you shot a bunch of animals in an open field) during his trips to Africa. Their heads on his wall like trophies. I was as disgusted then as I am today.

If you eat it, I have no issues. To me, shooting an animal in most cases is far more less harmful than the torture we put mass produced animal meat farmed animals through (see McDonald's).

its a tricky subject because u have to respect animals and nature if ur going to go out and kill it. alot of people who hunt are fucking idiots who just want to kill shit and have no respect. thats what i dont respect, the lack of respect. killing shit IS instinctual and natural but being a douchebag about it is not.

if people did not hunt for sport the populations of the animals would grow unmanageable and begin to consume large amounts of farmed food causing a big problem with food production. Im not for hunting just to mount it on your wall but if it is being eaten then thats ok i was always taught not to kill anything unless u intend to eat it. except for snakes and other possibly dangerous animals

ive never seen deer meat in the store last i checked it was illegal to sell wild game and what is the difference if u buy it in a store or kill it yourself other than from the store u pay for someone else to slaughter your food maybe if you had to kill it yourself you would gain a better respect for nature. ask the corn farmer what he thinks about all those deer that eat his harvest unless they are kept in check by managed hunting.

I used to hunt when I was younger, but we always ate what we killed. I never ate deer but 3 or 4 times. But my grandad was one of the oldskoolers, he ate squirrel, deer, rabbit, turtle, dove, quail. They were really poor growing up, so for him it was survival and he just grew accustomed to it.
I don't agree with the trophy hunters or fishermen, but sometimes, because of other stuff we screw up, there is an over abundance of game. The deer where I live are a pain in the *ss. They have become overpopulated, in a populated
state, to the point, they are hit on the roads all the time, a month ago, I was running deer out of my yard, 3 at a time, eating my roses, veggie garden, apple tree and anything else they think is tasty. Actually there probably wouldn't be a problem with them, if we hadn't created it!

i think they should ban the use of sophisticated hunting and fishing equipment.its really not sport when u can shoot a deer over a mile away or see the fish on a HD sonar system. some people only fish and hunt to show off their gizmos and $50k bass boats that can go 80mph bacause everyone knows to be a good fisherman u have to have a 500hp boat motor that will hit 85mph in 5 seconds flat lol
