Do you think hunting for 'fun' is wrong?
I understand the eskimos killing seals for meat for food and using their skin for clothes and their bones for stuff and their whole motto about not leaving any part of the animal un-used...that I can understand...
But all the fat americans that sit in camping chairs inside tree houses with a buncha beer waiting for deer to walk buy and to shoot 'em and then...well what do they do then? do they really use the meat? I'm not making assumptions I honestly don't know. what do you think? is hunting wrong if we're not doing it for the necessity of our survival? [i wrote necessity and assumptions without getting the red squiggly spell check bar haha...half cut too!]

Without even mentioning the fact that venison isn't even all that great in taste.

Hard to say for me at least, most modern sports huntsmen are probably more dedicated to their hunting environments than most environmentalists as they understand the need to replenish their sport. Those beer-guzzling fatass americans also pay a lot in fees and permits to make sure their hunting grounds are taken care of and not overhunted.
As long as it's common/highly reproductive animals like deer and not endangered/hard to repopulate fauna i see no adverse affects on the environment as a whole.

I have a lot of friends that hunt... they all cut and prepare the meat.
There are alot of good cuts on a deer, just like any animal some cuts are good and some not so good.

The necessity argument is always really flawed. I would rather someone hunt responsibly than do what I do and purchase the shit at the grocery store where the animals have been treated like shit, there's enormous emissions at processing plants, it's most likely not wholesome meats, etc. Now personally I couldn't hunt cuz I'd cry like a bitch all fucking day.
but that's only because I don't have to. Hunting isn't "necessary" for most of us, but it's a more humane and responsible way to get meat than those of us who don't farm our own animals.

Once you get away from the comfort of cities, you come to realize how important hunting and fishing is to some families. A bunch of families here in Maine count on bagging several deer or maybe even a moose in order to have meat in their freezers.
Aside from that, what's so wrong about sitting in a tree stand and waiting for something to walk by? Have you ever walked through the woods and actually surprised a deer? Those motherfuckers are so tricky it's almost impossible to kill them without camping in a tree stand. The difference between the number of deer in an area is extreme depending on whether or not you can hunt. Around here, the deer actually KNOW when hunting season is and they all retreat to the wildlife refuges and to this one huge populated island where hunting is prohibited. And if you have to sit around in the freezing cold all day without making any noise, you might as well have something to keep you occupied...like a cooler of beers. And yeah, there are great cuts of meat on any animal, you just have to eat the right parts and not be such a pus when meat actually tastes like an animal. Venison sausage? Delicious. Makes great jerky too. And you're really in luck if you get a doe permit, cause those bambi motherfuckers are delectable. |

I have a problem with sport fishing more than hunting, only because our fisheries are in a state of collapse. Not many people these days need to hunt or fish out of necessity but old habits die hard. I agree with the comment about liscence fees going to support game species populations, or at least that's the intent.

Most hunters do use the entire animal in one way or another too. They eat the meat, and generally what they don't eat is sold or given away to others. My uncle hunts deer and he gives 2/3s of every buck he catches to a few food bank type things in his area.
As for the skin, taxidermists pay for good skins so they get used as well. Although I don't really even need to add this post cause Scatter hit it on the head entirely.

Yeah, but the animal was using the whole animal first.

deer meat is bangin.
i don't hunt but i don't have a problem with it. isn't it natural instinct to kill shit and eat it? and i don't think its 'fun' to anyone in the sense you guys are portraying. from the hunters i have talked to its more about the adrenaline rush, power to kill something and the delicious meat. they bring beer so it will be slightly fun. i would too.

power to kill something = if you feel u need that power u are a fucked up human being (but what else is new) delicious meat = can be bought at store its a tricky subject because u have to respect animals and nature if ur going to go out and kill it. alot of people who hunt are fucking idiots who just want to kill shit and have no respect. thats what i dont respect, the lack of respect. killing shit IS instinctual and natural but being a douchebag about it is not.

seems the obvious solution is to not eat meat.
but seriously, I have more respect for people who hunt their own food than people who just eat the shoveled shit they give you at McDonalds...like scatterheart said. At least hunters know what they are eating and actually protect and nurture their "game." IMO the worst of the worst are those who kill for fun. What kind of mentality is that? /shrugs. I don't understand hunting. I never have. Outside of those living in the forest who need a food source, I don't get how exploding a living creature's skull is an enjoyable experience. But I'm not the judge...just another human's opinion.

Nobody hunting for sport shoots the head, noob, ruins the trophy value^
Deer are pretty much designed to be shot in this day and age, they're typically overpopulated to the point that if they're not shot, they'll suffer a slow death due to starvation or disease, that said, there are hunting seasons for a reason, and it's still got to be taken responsibly. I don't get people who shoot bears, and other endangered shit though, that's just the epitome of compensating for a small cock.
