Lightbulb Self Employment

Anybody here self employed?

Any tips anyone has on being your own boss, selling yourself, and conveying a sense of professionalism in all that you do would be very much appreciated.

I've been hired as a consultant. I'm working full time in an office, but I am not an employee. I have a set hourly rate and will have to invoice my 'boss' every two weeks. It's very liberating but also confusing at the same time.

Be sure to set aside money for taxes, as they will not be deducted from your pay. Also, what are you doing about health insurance? You will have to provide that for yourself.

I will set aside money - not sure exactly how much but the majority of every paycheck is going to go into my savings account and stay there for as long as possible.

I'm hoping that because I was a student for the first 4 months of the year, and have not made any money since right now (the last four months of the year), that my income tax will not be too much if anything at all.

As for health insurance, yeah that's a problem I'm going to have to tackle for sure in the very near future.

I work freelance web design which just depends on clientele and how that goes; my other work at home job is being a KGB Agent. No not a commie, the ones that answer your text messages. You get around 20cents a question answered so its not bad, I get around 200 at the minimum a month.

I've been self-employed for the last 6 or so years but never managed to set money aside for taxes. Nor do I have private health insurance but we don't really need that shit in Australia.

The biggest problem for me always was job security or insecurity for that matter, I never know what's gonna happen next month or next year, changing companies every couple of months...
