Religion is a mental illness

Religion is a mental illness, how can we get it officially classified as one.

Here are 7 similarities between religion and other mental illnesses I found on google:

(1) Hallucinations - the person has invisible friends who (s)he insists are real, and to whom (s)he speaks daily, even though nobody can actually see or hear
these friends.

(2) Delusions - the patient believes that the invisible friends have magical powers to make them rich, cure cancer, bring about world peace, and will do so eventually if asked.

(3) Denial/Inability to learn - though the requests for world peace remain unanswered, even after hundreds of years, the patients persist with the praying behaviour, each time expecting different results.FEATURED ARTICLE: Self-Abuse: The New-Age Anorexia

(4) Inability to distinguish fantasy from reality - the beliefs are contingent upon ancient mythology being accepted as historical fact.

(5) Paranoia - the belief that anyone who does not share their supernatural concept of reality is "evil," "the devil," "an agent of Satan".

(6) Emotional abuse - religious concepts such as sin, hell, cause feelings of guilt, shame, fear, and other types of emotional "baggage" which can scar the
psyche for life.FEATURED ARTICLE: Self-Abuse: The New-Age Anorexia

(7) Violence - many patients insist that others should share in their delusions, even to the extent of using violence.

Religion is a mental illness, and you're a birth defect.
Who cares.

Who cares? Well, Religion is dangerous, the world is being lead by these people making world decision basted insanity, if i tried to run of president and said:"i believe in flying trolls and space aliens." i would be called insane, yet if i beveled in a magical sky-man who can hear all people at once then thats ok, religion is stupid, religion causes death, (9/11) , member that? RELIGION! religion says the world will end and its kind of ironic, because religion just might end the world, and by the way, the grown ups are talking so go watch T.V. and be a sheep.

The fucking scary part is that like 8 billion people in the world that practice some form of religion and only like 24 of use aren't.

...you're not going to convince the majority of the world that they are crazy for being religious. You ever see Contact?

i used to have an IQ of 400....but do to massive amounts of hard drugs its down to 459 now....me the smart

but yeah just to actually contribute something to the thread. Religion in my eyes doesnt make much sense...but then again.....not much does.

even with my staggering IQ i cant explain life....so i kinda just had to say.."mang i dunno whats out there, nobody really does" so its kinda moot

as for the op...

religion is most common in places where people dont have much and dont make much money and, therefore, have little to no hope of raising their status. religion/ witchcraft/ magic/ shamanism all help to make people feel as if they have some form of control of things that are largely beyond their control.

Mostly its because of fear of speaking their mind and fear of freewill, Most people are scared to think freely and like to be sheep.

If you are the result of when people think freely, "the sheep" should be constrained...

WRONG, Witchcraft is actuality an art form of the mind, like painting or poetry, NOT a religion there is no dogma or no core believes, Wiccan is a religion but their is a BIG difference between the two, most people like to be ignorant to things and then judge others on things that they don't understand, like even Satanism, which is a philosophy, and yes there is a difference between philosophy and religion. This tread is proving my point more and more the people are sheep.

I think you would have to distinguish between those who are forced to practice and those who practice at their own will before you even begin to make that claim.

Many religious beliefs are irrational, but when they bring us into greater alignment with our better natures, and a sense of wonder at the divine, they make us better beings. The only way to know the value of a thing is to look for the good in it.
