Also, interesting tidbit, if you have, or know little ones who don't write yet, you can set something down in front of them, probably repeatedly at different times, and see which hand they pick it up with...which ever hand they pick it up with, is moooore than likely the one that's gonna be dominant.

To be left handed is to be ambidextrous, the right man always keeping me down, making me do it his way!!!! After a whole season I finally figured out why my sharper wasn't working so smoothly and required some effort to stabilize that 'junk', I realized some ass hole right person invented it!!! grrrrr

I play bass left handed because I'm proud. Take your right way of living and shove it

militant left hander... for fun....

I'm a righty, but I can swing a bat, throw a ball, and do a judo throw left handed among other things. Having a broken hand can be useful it seems (broke it a year ago, its healed now).

Funny story, when I started batting I had to 'learn' in as much as the first thing I did was stance up righty It was easy to figure out why I wasn't doing so hot once I found out how to stand left handed. I think I was 7-8.

My Dad and My Uncle are left handed. The two other brothers are wrong handed.
Neither of his parents are left handed.
But his Dad's Dad and his Dad were.
So his grand and great grand Pap.

At that era, it's hard to say who was and had it broken out of them.

I used to work with 4 Left handed Amish people and she looked at me like I was crazy for asking if they tried to change people's dominant hand, figuring this would fit in with other strictness factors. Guess not. Learn something new all the time. Talking with the Ladies was great times.

A nice little irony for you who care to look it up, my name in Hebrew is translated 'Right hand of the Father' which obviously means 'correct' hand

Right handed and right legged for life. I jack off with my left hand though.

Does anyone have the opposite dominant for leg? It would be the leg you used when playing kickball. I'd imagine it's usually going to be the same as your arm...

Did you know you have a dominant eye also? The way to tell which is which, make a tiny diamond with the finger tips. Hold it at arms length, then slowly draw it towards the tip of the nose. Whichever side of the nose your fingers end up on, that's the dominant eye.

I can't say as easily, but I'd have to say I would play back in soccer with my left foot, but I'm pretty decent with either. Same with holding a hockey stick, either or.

When I had my laser eye surgery they told me I was right eye dominant, which is probably why I'm a mean shot with either side, steady on the left side, high visual on the right. Dead eye Sage... that is what they used to called me *puff of smoke out the barrel*

True, but ambidexterity isn't measured solely on the ability to write with both hands.

I'm right handed, but I play golf, hockey, and swing a bat left-handed. I smoke both-handed.

I'm left handed too.

The new theory now seems to be centered on "mixed handedness". It has to do with the degree of dominance of your preferred hand. My sis is left handed and is pretty useless with her right, but I can do all kinds of things with my right. We were both raised the same, in the same environment. Both my parents were righties.

My ex was also a lefty and both our kids are right handed. Out of 4 grandkids, I got 1 righty, 2 lefties, and 1 unknown.

There are more left handed people that are of lesser intelligence, but before anyone starts laughing, there are more left handed geniuses as well (based on % of population). Righties tend to be more 'average'.

Ambidextrous means '2 right hands'. The word for '2 left hands' is ambisinistral. Yep, the word 'sinister' comes from the Latin word for left. I hate that.

4 out of the past 7 US presidents have been lefties. That sorta proves the genius/dummy thing imo. lol

This statement made me curious.

So in turn, I found this.

Quote:
Ambidexterity is the state of being equally adept in the use of both left and right appendages (such as the hands). It is one of the most famous varieties of cross-dominance. People that are naturally ambidextrous are rare, with only one out of one hundred people being naturally ambidextrous[1]. The degree of versatility with each hand is generally the qualitative factor in determining a person's ambidexterity.

In modern times, it is more common to find people considered ambidextrous who were originally left handed and who learned to be ambidextrous either deliberately or during childhood institutions such as schools where right-handed habits are often emphasized or required. Also, since many everyday devices (such as can openers and scissors) are asymmetrical and designed for right-handed people, many left-handers learn to use them right-handedly due to the rarity or lack of left-handed models. Thus, left-handed people are much more likely to develop motor skills in their non-dominant hand than right-handers (who are not subjected to left-favoring devices). Right-handers may become ambidextrous due to an injury of their right hand or arm. Ambidexterity is often encouraged in activities requiring a great deal of skill in both hands, such as juggling, swimming, percussion, keyboard music, baseball, lacrosse, surgery, boxing, and basketball.
