The origin of the stories is not what is important, it is the lessons one is able to derive from them. Whether they come from describing real events or fictional doesn't matter. When you condemn a thing, that ends any possibility of learning from it, or deriving any other value for yourself.

Self-righteousness makes you feel superior, but it doesn't actually make you any better, just annoying to anyone who would rather not be judged.
