I would also add 'Do me a solid' to that as well.

It's either a favour (I'll buy the beer if you help me move) or quid pro quo (I do this for you and you owe me (one).

'Do me a solid' says 'I REALLY need your help' because you're my friend and I need to count on you right now. It dismisses any sort of reciprocation (or even bringing it up) based on the premise that because you're a friend they should be able to count on you at a moments notice with nothing expected from them in return.

If this doesn't make sense to you, then perhaps when you are told that you can expect _______ in return, but instead get 'Hey, you did me a solid, thanks a lot, Bro' you will.

Or, 'Hey man, you buy the first round and get some shots, and I'll get the next one' is another good 'You did me a solid' copout when they suddenly don't have any cash on hand or they just figured out that funds are available yet.

Laugh AT me, but eventually you won't think it's so funny.

Looking out for someone without them asking you to is a great definition of friendship. Predicating it with 'Do me a solid' IMO is saying I need your help (for something of great importance to the individual asking) but not so much that we should drink some beer on my tab, because you did.

Solid to me.....we go camping, hunting, etc. You tell me you will pay for gas have all the gear we need, and I respond by telling you I will drive and pack food for the trip. And then...you respond with a notable fist pump when you say 'Solid' indicating the deal has been made.

So, don't ever ask me to 'Do a solid' Just ask me if I can help you out. If I can, I will, with no expectations or return unless they are stated up front.

Which is about 99% of the time unless you say....
