ok i have finally talked with a lawyer from whichita and this is what has been explained to me as far as Kansas is concerned.

It is perfectly legal to film the department as a whole so long as i dont film them while off-duty and do not interfere with the investigation in progress. other than that they are fare game.

As far as the FAA regulations are concerned. it is a grey area. So long as these videos are not sold nor used to promote anything it falls within this grey area and could swing in either direction. it would be left to a judge to decide this.

I have also been urged that if i do find any illegal activities on behalf of the officer or citizen that i must report it to the DA within 48 hours of the incident or the video will not be admissable in any sort of way.

I am expecting further elaboration on this after more research is done by this lawyer.

You better talk to more than one lawyer, and you better make sure that the lawyer you choose specializes in this area of defense.

For every DA's victory, there's a Defense Attorney's loss.

When the gavel falls, they still get paid, and you still have to go to sentencing.

You also better make sure you know the laws and how they apply to YOU, local, state, and federal, before you attempt anything like what you've talked about.

'Based on my interpretation' does NOT cover it by any means.

For starters, you need to be trained by someone who would be accepted as an expert witness and can prove THEY are qualified in deeming you qualified to operate an RC Aircraft with video and audio recording capabilities. You know the US Military actually has Specialists who are specifically trained to operate the very same aircraft with the devices you are talking about using, right? Not just an afternoon in the parking lot behind the hobby shop, days, weeks, Months of training.

If some sort of accident occurs and life or limb is involved, your credibility as an operator of the aircraft could be called into question, and if you're not able to produce someone who can testify to your qualifications and abilities, you are at the top of a steep hill with nothing but negligence waiting for you at the bottom.

here's some aerial photography I've done. It's not easy... to get a good camera in the air is a totally different story, this is a really basic 1.3 mp camera...

Fow what it's worth, there is recent legal precedent for the video taping of LEO's while on duty. The gist of it is that they have no reasonable expectation of privacy while engaged in the performance of said duties.

Now if you're absolutely clean and love to poke wild animals in the eye with a stick, get yourself a couple of the mini DV cams that use microSD cards and are the size of a quarter. Velcro the bitches inside your car and carry one on your key chain. They also make glasses that have 'em built in now, but they're more dough...about $150 a pair. I record any encounter with a LEO and occasionally go out of my way just to fuck with them. It's fun and incredibly entertaining. I guess the pay off is that the technology now allows us to make those fuckers feel like they make us feel. Now they can spend their days and nights bein' all paranoid about which citizens are watching, and recording, them.

Got one sleepin' in his car in a distant corner of a mall parking lot. Burned a disc and dropped it at HQ and with a local T.V. station. My ultimate goal is to give them all stomach fuckin' cancer from the worry. I also keep one on the dash for the quick catch of the dicks that run red lights and cut me off 'cuz they can. They all suck balls. Sorry...anything havin' to do with those fucks get's me riled.

Here's an interesting documentary that includes a Hollywood producer's efforts to film the IRS. Part of the government's boogieman game is to insist that we can't watch them or even look at them because of "Terrorist Threats". Give me a fuckin' break.

Everybody should watch this!
