japan's culture has been one of rapid innovation for the last couple hundred years (at least) ever since they became aware that the rest of the world was lightyears ahead of them.

Unfortunately all they got for it was stuck in a techno bubble a lightyear high, way too many people, and not enough resource.

But Japan will do what it takes... wonder what comes next for our 5 foot neighbors to the west.

Any culture that allows you to buy a pair of soiled panties from a vending machine by pointing your cell phone at it is advanced by any reasonable standard. The bullet trains and tube-room hotels are just a bonus.
