well that rally to restore sanity was pretty silly all things considered

it wasnt so much of a schill for dems as i thought it would be.

but since it wasnt that it was kinda like um wtf is the point of this.

like its cool, but honestly it makes becks rally look like it had like real substance because this is nothing more than people making jokes and performers singing songs like any random music festival.

why have it 3 days before the election?

... i guess at the end of hte day its just like becks rally- a ego trip for stewart and colbert and not much else. but mildly entertaining.

im glad it wasnt very political, but if i was them i probably would have made it more so. i guess they didnt want to piss of republican people since they are their fans too, but then why even have it right now before the election if it wasnt suposed to be political?

meh.

I think Stewart, who is a hack and always has been, believes his schtick. Especially since he got POTUS on his fake news show. He is as partisan Left as they come, but plays it as if his politics are middle of the road. That's why the closest thing to hardball questions to Barry were along the lines of "why aren't you as Liberal as we thought you were?". Oh, the answers to that question are:
1. Chicago politician.
2. "Hope" and "Change" with no definition are just empty words.
3. The 1st Law of Politics, like junkies and whores, is that the lie. Always.
TDS was a much funnier when Kilby ran the show.

I think Colbert is a comic genius. But I also think he sees what he does for what it is. It's an Andy Kaufman thing. The joke is on everyone else. If it furthers his political agenda, so much the better. But I don't think that's his main goal. His goal is to play this role and pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

I'm still enough of a believer that I find it disheartening that the opinion makers are all either bomb throwing buffoons or 3rd rate stand up comedians.

i love how these comedian bros are genuinely at the same level as political 'pundents' in people like j-wonders head, trying to compete with 'genuine newscasters' like glen beck

THEY ARE MAKING FUN OF GLEN BECK.

^ Not entirely true.

There is a serious point to this. It's to remind us that the majority of Americans are reasonable people, and not the crazy 15-20% sensationalists that get pandered to/glorified on cable news. Hence the slogans like 'Taking it down a notch,' and the 'Busy majority because you have shit to do.'

in other words they are satirizing the vocal minority

i get it, but the entire thing was started as a reaction to glen becks rally as a spoof.

it wasnt even stewarts or colberts idea, it started out as a thread on reditt and eventually enough people latched into the idea to make it a reality.

i think its fucking hilarious and also smart. a great example of how democracy should work.

look son I'm on tv...

edit;
:

well the laugh is on Beck.

What an idiot.

The Restoring Honor rally was held in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 2010, and was organized by Glenn Beck as a values-and-patriotism event to "restore honor in America" and to raise funds for the non-profit Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Billed as a "celebration of America's heroes and heritage,"[1] several veterans were honored. Along with Beck, the main speakers included former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin[2] and activist Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr.[3][4]

Beck's speech at the rally emphasized the theme that Americans of all religions should turn to their faith in God,[5] "turning our face back to the values and principles that made us great."[6] Beck's and Palin's speeches praised George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as America's war veterans. Beck called for Americans to unite despite political or religious disagreements, with 240 clergy from different races and religions – belonging to the ecumenical ministerial group, the Black Robe Regiment – joining the events' speakers on stage before its closing statements.[5][7]

The attendance of the rally is disputed; as various media outlets have reported numbers ranging from 80,000 to 1.6 million. Moreover, Beck received criticism from some civil rights leaders, social justice advocates and media personalities, for both holding the event at the Lincoln Memorial, the location of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech on its 47th anniversary, and the event theme, which African American leaders believe was distorting the legacy of the civil rights movement.[1][8] As a consequence of the religiously-centered rally, the fact that Beck is Mormon has also caused concern amongst some of Beck's Christian evangelical fans, on theological grounds.[9][10]

I'll end the cut and paste here...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restoring_Honor_rally

sooo much religious bullshit,

Beck has got to be a paid republican assmouth.

I watched it yesterday and thought it was pretty funny.

Satire obviously has it's place in informing people because the 'ten million' people that were there can't be wrong

Nice pics Komp.

Satire is the sugar coating on an otherwise bitter pill.

The Britts own satire. (with a very few exceptions) ,(Penn & Teller),(Bill Maher on a Good day/issue.),(The Onion).(George Bush's speech writer )
British political satirists are some of the best.

Their delivery is better, and you don't have to have an 190 I.Q., and total recall like with Dennis Miller to "get it".

And their English tends to be better...(depending in the dialect ).

its basically a jab at how staunchly partisan our country is. its not about voting the party lines its about voting on the actual issues and whats best for the country

this has gotta be trolling

There was some great signs, vibes, and performances. A bunch of friends went and had a blast. Sounds like everyone else there did too. Mission completed.

Didn't have a chance to go, but I would have to say that 99% of the people there are probably more reasonable than Republicans and Democrats.

The last thing from the "Rally to Restore Sanity" was it to be a serious event. It is a Comedy Central show, but I think John Stewart does a great job of showing the stupidity, selfishness, and their general lack of morals.

Most politicians are shitheads who change their opinions whenever it suits them. They don't actually give a fuck.

It is interesting to see the contrast between the signs at tea party rallies and the ones that were at the Jon Stewart/Steven Colbert rally. And I hope nobody says, "Well you didn't see ALL the signs at either rally." The difference between the crowds had to do with sanity and logic, and the sense that the world isn't going to end because of a democratic majority and a black President. That rally not only made fun of our political system/situation for its amazing inadequacies and ineffectiveness, but provided a great counterpoint to the heavily covered paranoid alternative that has unfortunately dominated our political conversation for the past year or so.
