I voted no because I'm not willing to put in the effort to drive 3.5 hours to my home county to vote or re-register in my current county. There are only one or two issues i would actually vote on, and I'm not too vehement about them anyway.

I always thought it was bullshit that felons can't vote. No one's every really explained the logic to me...

gotcha. ya i just looked it up and i guess there's only a handful of states that felons are banned for life from voting.
The Straight Dope: Why can't felons vote? i like straightdope.com, the articles are usually well written (though the forums require money to post and are full of puckered anuses)

I haven't registered to vote for like 20 years, but I registered this time to vote for Prop 19. It was sort of a moral dilemma, because I believe voting is nothing more than a pacifier. You have no real power, but you think you do, when you vote. Still, I couldn't really let this one pass by. I won't be voting on anything else on the ballot, however.

I'm not voting, becasue seeing as I am not old, rich, a small business owner, or a corporate giant, politics do nothing to help we. So fuck voting. Ok, I turned in a ballot but only to vote on Oregon's measure 74. Thats it!

ive been doing battle via facebook all morning with these people.
they think its all about the money, which is probably is. but to me its a rights issue which can lead to change in other states. excerpt from facebook: [@mitya:"Granted tobacco alters parts of the mind ...but nowhere near the effects of some weed" thats just plain wrong. tobacco is the plant which contains NICOTINE, aka one of the most addictive substances around; addiction is an alteration of the normal chemical balance at receptor sites in your brain. and which part of what i said is rubbing it in peoples faces? i dont enjoy breathing 2nd hand tobacco smoke on campus at my school, on patios at bars and restaurants, clubs, parties etc. i cant avoid breathing, and people apprently arent going to stop smoking even agaisnt the mountain of scientific evidence that, in short, says smoking tobacco will, in most cases, harm your health and eventually kill you. the fact is that tobacco is legal for persons 18 and over, alcohol for persons 21 and over. use of either substance has a high correlation with disease and death, and not just for the users. compare that data to the virtually non existent evidence regarding health problems and cannabis use and i dont understand how a reasonable person could even think cannabis is equally dangerous let alone enough of a threat to the general public that it should be prohibited."]

I believe I heard an analogy something like
Quote:
You hand your ass to the people who DO care to vote and you live by their terms, which we all know isn't always very pretty. It doesn't take away your rights to free speech... but I feel it adds a good ironic twist.... If you don't 'vote' what are the other options for change.... that could be seriously considered? Even though it's not perfect, I feel there is a relative meaning in participating in the game as it exists. Change will come from within.
