Stephen Marley Bails Buju Banton Out Of Prison After Mistrial Declared

In a show of solidarity, Stephen Marley posts bail for Buju Banton who awaits a second trial on cocaine trafficking charges.

Reggae star Buju Banton was freed from a Florida prison Wednesday, after Stephen Marley used his South Florida home to post bond and bail the embattled Dancehall artist. Banton was required to sign an extradition waiver, wear an electronic monitoring device and hire a private security team to ensure he does not flee the United States.

Banton, whose government name is Mark Anthony Myrie, has been in federal custody since December of 2009 after being arrested on attempted drug trafficking charges. DEA spokesman David Melenkevitz said Banton was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.

In September, a jury was unable to come to a verdict, and Judge James Moody declared a mistrial. Banton maintains he spoke to an undercover officer about cocaine only to impress him, as the man claimed to have music industry connections. Banton’s attorney, David Markus, told the Associated Press he was thrilled Banton could regroup at his Florida home before his retrial, which is scheduled for February.

Where's it say he ever had the cocaine? All seems a bit bogus that you can be busted for talking about buying cocaine.

from court documents I read it seemed that they met at a bar, the CI informed him he had 5 kilos hidden in the body of the truck, took him to the truck and showed him, they agreed on the price then they arrested him, that's why he was charged with conspiracy not possession with intent.

there is such a thing in america
and it's arguable
Quote:
In criminal law, entrapment is constituted by a law enforcement agent inducing a person to commit an offense that the person would otherwise have been unlikely to commit.[1] In many jurisdictions, entrapment is a possible defense against criminal liability. However, there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime.

Entrapment is a pretty rare thing and I don't think this would nearly qualify.

entrapment is if they get someone to do something they wouldnt normally do.

"you want coke" "yea sure"
is not entrapment because obviously your down for buying coke.

now if they called you every day badgering you to buy some, and you werent into coke in the first place, you might have a case pf entrapment.
