the all time greats street fighter vs mk vs virtua fighter

in the 90s fighting games ruled.....they pwned the arcades....the home consoles and they owned part of my youth

the question i pose to u my fighting fanatic friends is what one was truly the greatest?

Its sooo hard to pick one so i am just gonna run down all my favs.

street fighter 2 turbo....awesome character design, the actual fighting mechanics were top notch, the basic combos then the really advanced re-dizzy crazy shit, u needed real skill to play...no dragon punches or spinning pile drivers if u were just a button masher. Really almost flawless

mortal kombat 2.....digitized graphics were pretty kewl back in the day. Good cast of characters, lots of lil hidden easter eggs "toasty!" and of course what made the game such a smash...the fatalities baby.

Samurai showdown 2- amazing animation for the time, great mechanics *not quite SF level but very close*, weapons were new, good cast of characters *a character named caffeine nicotine...just awesome* plus it did have its own kind of fatalities....u could slice people clean in half or do the arterial blood spray.

Virtua fighter....in my opinion the play mechanics were deeper and better than even SF. The graphics being in full 3d at the time...were truly amazing. Another game ware u needed to know your moves and combos if u wanted to stand a chance against anybody decent. It paved the way for all 3d fighters to come.

Primal rage....not as popular as the others listed but......fuckin great characters, who wouldnt want to play as a t-rex or a raptor....u could eat the villagers than ran past your feet during battle for extra energy. U could also play volleyball with them in a mini game lol. Stop motion graphics...which looked pretty kewl at the time. In my opinion the best fatalities of any fighting game. Chaos's fatality was litterally pissing on his opponent untill he melted lol.

Then my favorite of all time....Killer instinct. The graphics in cgi for one of the first times ever gave it a look like no other game out there. Fuckin awesome soundtrack...i actually still have the cd. Really really kewl characters, good balance between fighters...nice special moves....and of course.......there was nothing quite like pulling off a 80 hit combo on some noob and watching their mouths gape. Also some pretty kewl fatalities but not on the MK or primal level.

i know i am leaving out some other really good SNK games but yeah those were my top pics.

what did u guys think was the best? most fun? lets just talk about that golden age of gaming goodness.

oh...and here is chaos pissing somebody to death its about at the 1:15 mark

sorry in advance for the massive amounts of spelling errors and bad grammar in general...i am off to bed

Man, Tekken was the shit back on PS1, I kicked so much ass with Eddy. MK owns all fighting games though.

tekken was solid for sure....but it was essentially a virtua fighter clone but with more of a button mashing game play style. I think it had less depth but obviously was easier to pick up and play and was a faster game in general.

certainly a solid series though.

i guess dead or alive is worth a mention too...but mostly cause the chicks were much hotter.

As far as a newer fighting game has anybody else played the blaz blue series? The last one was really fuckin awesome actually...great anime style characters....crazy special moves and combos but still very technical. beautiful graphics too.

here is a video of blazblue

oh yeah and soul calibure for the dreamcast was amazing when it first came out....i remember my buddy and i were playing it on acid when we first unlocked lizard man... we both just freaked out because he was just a big freakin crazy lizard creature thing lol. I think we were also listening to the doors at the time so...the whole lizard king plus lizard man vibe was pretty kewl.

Mortal kombat was a sweet ass game but if it wasnt for introducing fatalities and mass amounts of blood i dont think it would have made much impact
