north korea does have a large army but we could just bomb the shit out of them in short time if they were actually crazy enough to purposefully start war. my guess is that it was just a mistake, and north korea being north korea they refuse to acknowledge they fucked up. i guess the bad thing though is that no matter what happens the U.S has to get involved because we still control their military.

the real danger would be if russia or china sided with north korea but it seems that all the super powers have universally denounced north koreas actions so... fuckit.

North Korea has at least eleven operational nukes. They're short on food. Their leadership is going through a "transition". Military officers are all super-patriotic fanatics, out of fear of being denounced and sent to die with their family in a forced labor camp.

In short, they have very little to lose in starting a war with the south.

Back about twenty years ago (god getting old) when I was stationed there, I would often imagine what an attack would look like. I never imagined it would start with a small incident and then slowly grow. I still feel this way.

If the balloon ever goes up over there, I feel it will be with a sudden massive attack by the North, hitting the South's bases hard and all at once. So no, I don't think this is the big one.

north korea has succesfully exploded nuclear devices in underground tests , and they have succesfully tested various missles. but that doesnt necesarily mean they have a functional nuclear icbm, or even functional nuclear missle that could go as far as south korea.

the intransigence of n korea, and the fact that they can pretty much keep doing what they have been doing indefinately as long as they dont push it past a certain level, because they have some nukes or likely have some nukes, should be pretty good evidence to anyone of why letting every country get nukes is a baaaaad idea.

unless they decide to change themselves, there is nothing anyone can do about it...unless they force us into a nuclear conflict in which case theyd be wiped out pretty quickly but probably do some terrible collateral damage first.... soeul has what 20 million people in it? 1 bomb would take out 3/4s of s koreas population even if they only had one.

I have always laughed at those who think that any country should have nukes, especially the only country that has actually used them on civilians...If it weren't for fear of joining Japan, America would have long been dismantled...What is even more humorous is the thinking that we can have a weapon and ban it from everyone who isn't our friend, under threat of using that same weapon on said individuals/countries...But ass backwards self preserving at all costs thinking is the "American Way"...
