CELEBRATIONS

Thanks Pharm Girl and Giles

Getting ready to call my Mom and say thanks

When I was born , in 1981, I was rushed to intensive care in a medical centre 2 hours from my Mom and Dad. There was swelling in my head due to the birthing process which ultimately ended in a c-section.

I was in care for nearly a month, under observation. My prognosis was 50/50 that is, dead/mentally handicapped and they never expected anything more.

Lots of love, care and prayers from faith communities and traditions all over the surrounding counties, I came out classifiably 'ok'...spare the jokes

In Hershey medical centre most of December, my parents had to drive a lot of the time to see me, which that winter was a long snowy drive in my Mom's '77 Cutlas. And for those of us who know what rear wheel drive is... you understand the hardship they faced. There was no Ronald McDonald House there at the time and I'm honestly not sure if they slept in waiting rooms or what. It makes me choked up inside to think for a second how scared and worried they must have been along with all that added stresses.

Right now I'm living in a city with a Ronald House and I'm going to try to volunteer there. What they do is a beautiful and much needed.

So I ask you, If or When you are in McDonald's and you have some spare change in your pocket from the meal, slide the remainder into that little box in front of the register, for all the kids like me whose parents who didn't have a place to go and to help ensure a place of safety, love and care for families to turn to in what I can only imagine is a low low point of life.

Not to turn this into a public service message or anything. I just feel incredibly indebted to the people who took care of me how they could, to the Universe for not squashing me right off, and to all the people who helped my family survive the event as well. Our family doctor who delivered me made some poor choices, which caused the injury/swelling in the first place, which he admitted. However my family never sued but simply and sternly forgave him. And that is also a lesson I've taken. 'Beyond the mistake or accident, we're okay, we'll get through it.'

Thanks YaHooka for filling the last 10 years with good times.
