Grow Cubes
Hey i just got a hydroponic grow system, this will be my first time growing. I was just wanting to know if i could start growing with out grow cubes? Could i just germinate the seed and put it in the growning medium? Since the roots grow out of the cube anyway.

No you can do that too, I think it's in the privacy settings or somewhere.
Hmmm best start in rocwool or jiffy cubes or coco, the hydroton type clay pellets are a bit big for seedlings. You might get it to work but I'd advise against.

It may perish but I admire the spirit of experimentation.

Sorry about that letssmoke.
I don't think I would risk putting a sprout or seed in the grow rocks. I think that you would have a risk of the sprout hitting an air pocket or migrating where you don't want it to be. The 1" rockwool cubes are only about 12 bucks. It's well worth the investment I think. You get 90 something, so you would have some for next time. Now watch....when I hit enter, FG will have a post right before me...lol |

Hey guys, i germinated the seeds. Then put them on top of the clay rocks, with the water driping down on top, and gave them 6 hours night and 18 hours light. I tried with three, and all three has sprouted. I set the water to drip one drip a second. Two looks really good, but the one that i had over top of the fogger looks to have gotten to wet. I moved it from over top of the fogger and it looks like it might take off, but was looking alittle rough. I kept the ph around 5.8 and 6.3. Im just hoping they are female. Will post back with more info as it goes, and i would like to thank you all for your help and input. If you try it with out the rocwool, just keep checking every so often to make sure that you get the seed out when the sprout bust through.

Keep trying with the runt.
My fave plant ever was a bitch to germinate, it popped but then didn't do much for a week, I thought it was going to die. Here's one of it's clones, her clone stock is hardy as you like. ![]() Very slow to veg tho. Got any pics of said seedlings?

Personally I'd go 24 hrs of light- just because it keeps conditions, especially temps, constant- which seedlings like. Some would say go 20hrs per day as plants don't gain much benefit from more than 20 hrs so you're wasting leccy. I don't think there's much benefit to going below 20 hrs light per day in veg in any case.
