Any of you guys sling pies for Pizza Hut?
My son just made an online order, haven't talked to a soul so far at the store, he tells me it this much money and I think fuck that doesn't seem right.
Turns out they add $2.50 as a delivery charge and then charge me tax on all of it so in reality it's $2.75 WTF? I wanna know how you get paid, when I delivered pizza it went like this. Minimum wage for the hourly, $.60 a delivery (that's 60% of the delivery charge at that time) for gas reimbursement and finally tips, which to be honest was the majority of the money I made. Used my own car, paid for my own insurance and maintenance and got the gas allowance, which was pretty fucking great since gas was ~$1.00 a gallon. I normally tip a couple bucks but I can't see dropping another couple bucks to the guy who delivers it if I'm paying corporate to have it shipped already.

Isn't it a known thing that for a while now the majority of places charge for delivery unless otherwise specifically stated? Even chinese places around here do it.
Oh and I always tip the kid anyway, he still works for tips just the same and it's my estimation a lot of places take that for themselves and either way he can't help company policy and is saving my lazy ass from going to get it.

Dude, $2.50?!
I'm just curious as to how much of that $2.50 an order the driver actually gets. And just so you all know, dude showed up at my door in the pouring rain, looking like a drowned rat, 15 minutes after we placed the order. I stuck a fin in his hand and told him to quit that shitty job.

Yeah $2.50 is a bit ridiculous. I must have skipped over that. I think here it's a buck fifty or so. It really is my understanding a lot of places keep that and don't give the driver shit, which does suck.

I have a few friends who work for pappa johns and a few who work for a local chinese place. Pappa john's has $2 delivery fee, half of which goes to the driver, this is on top of being paid slightly above minimum wage and getting to keep tips.
the chinese place pays a little below minimum wage (cash under the table), and has free delivery, so the driver completely relies on tips. unfortunately alot of people take 'free delivery' at face value.

the driver gets a dollar, minimum wage and whatever tips.
I once through a fit over the taxing of the delivery charge. Fucking scam of the century. Best advice is to go get it yourself. |

some pizza drivers i kno actually make hella money , altho it is a kinda meh job, goods and bads, finding house numbers in a huge pile of snow= not fun, driving around and blazing weed while making more than 20 bucks an hour when u get good tips = pretty fun.
the most clutch pizza delivery job ive heard of was my friend who worked for a pizzza place that did tons of corporate lunches- 3 days a week he had the daytime shift and would deliver like 300-500 dollar orders a couple times a day and the people would usually write out a crazy tip like 50 or 100 bucks regularly on those deleveries... he would make like 30 bucks an hour on the 11-5 shift.... consistently. which was pretty fucking crazy . |

they never taxed that shit when I was a driver. that's stupid as hell too because 7% of 2.50 is only .17... how can they legally do that? they are taxing like 15%.
I do recall making like $20/hour on my best night though. It still wasn't worth it though because they had stupid time requirements that required you to speed. It was impossible to make it without speeding through neighborhoods. I used to drive so fucking fast, I can't believe I never killed anyone. I did almost get in an accident but I avoided it because I didn't want to get piss tested and deal with that shit. Still fucked up by car though and then quit like two weeks later. If it didn't take so much of a fucking toll on your car it would be a great job. |

I always invite the dude in for a beer and a bong toke and send him with a fiver, just as the stoners and college kids did back when I delivered...

yeah I only go offered a hit and a beer once, I didn't take the beer but I took a hit. haha it was good cause I didn't have any bud with me that night so it was perfect.
I fucking loved that job. Just leaving the store for an hour at a time and not having to deal with fucking customers/managers. |

I'm not sure about Pizza Hut, but Domino's pays their drivers $5.25 per hour to start. They get .85 per run. They charge $1.99 plus tax, for delivery, and the driver gets none of it.
That 85 cents is to cover gas, insurance and wear and tear on your car. It doesn't matter if you go 1 block or 10 miles. If you don't make enough tips to bring you up to minimum wage, $7.25, the company must pay you the difference. That's the law anyways. Pizza Hut and Papa John's treat their people slightly better, so I've heard. Now, I'm only talking about here in Louisville, where I live. Pizza Hut and Domino's are franchises here. Papa John's started here. So yeah, tip your pizza drivers. They deserve it. |

![]() ![]() I used to deliver pizza for a while. I got paid $5 and hour + tips for a little place in town, back when I was 17 and gas was a little over a $1/gal. Wasn't a bad job, but the money never seemed to come for me. I got some nice tips a couple of times and invited into the girls dorm for a party at the local private school... so that made it all worth it I guess ![]() I usually tip the driver $5 at least.

In my town theres a lot of poverty and people tend to write out checks for the exact amount, like not even rounding up to the nearest dollar for a tip.
the way i see it is if your too broke to tip your too broke to order out.
