i started experimenting with japanese maple bonsais a couple years ago, they are coming along
come to think of it that reminds me that my parents brought them inside for the winter, which fucks them up, the whole point is that they are supposed to the harsh winter which causes the lignification and makes them look old and big (while remaining small). now they all soft baby tissue.

In Vancouver there is a penjing at Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden where my Wife used to volunteer that is as big as my leg and is 400 years old.... man, shitz just astounding.
While there isn't a pic of said penjing here is the link to the site: It ought to also be able to tell your some story about the garden itself which is no small story either. Chinese Garden Pretty cool place and worth the visit/$ if this is really your bag. It's neat to see a place built and landscaped with so much attention and intention in all things, from the rocks, which are from a special lake in China which is acidic and causes holes to form, thus channeling Chi, to the water, hand placed stone patio each thing is symbolic. The garden even has a male/female side which when it pointed out is easy to imagine why in such things like the pointed edges of the male side verses the rounded edges in the female side of the courtyard. ![]() All over the garden are these penjing ,which in the time of the dynasties where to represent parts of the kingdom and help inform the person living in the palace walls what life was like outside. ![]() That isn't even a fraction of the information or symbolism in the walls of the garden, but for those who know the story and intention that goes into the small gardens we are talking about here, you can only imagine what intention and precision can be found in a half acre, including building,'s worth of space. Cheers.
