On a scale of 1 to 5...

...where does "wanting to unload a 12-gauge into the TV because the insipid commercials and their constant message of 'buy! buy! buy this useless shit!' is driving you nuts" land on the Losing It scale?

I think in that circumstance the correct response would be, "I'm gay."

Depends on the commercial. You show me a delicious piece of food and talk about how tasty it is...thats good advertising, i love food and emphasizing its tastiness is relevent to my interests. but those miracle whip commercials that try to portray their sandwich spread as a social movement, a youth uprising, does indeed make me want to grab my shotgun and shoot my cable box.

I'm in a class about mysticism, haven;t been successful in my meditations. until today. we did a breathing exercise before a meditation on pure perception (free of concept) and i was launched into full fledged close eyed visuals reminisce of a good acid trip.

never under estimate the power of breath.

The average commercial sucks ass, but it's always nice to see the ones that make you laugh and/or show some creativity.

the worst is when they pump the volume of the commercial up super loud so it stands way out in contrast to the rest of the ads and whats playing on tv.

like i'll have the tv on in the background sorta low, then i hear in MAX VOLUME some stupid ad about snuggies or some shit.

I think it lands pretty low on the loosing it scale. While these commercials are irritating, this is nothing new, and a simple push of the 'mute' button will help reside the intense feelings you may feel at this time. In terms of frustration when compared to the other atrocities we face through normal day to day to bullshit life, this may rank rather low on the scale of such things.

Why would you ever watch commercials when there are such plentiful amounts of dvrs to be hoarded, and also such nice pirates that want to give you high definition torrents minutes after airtime, and those terrific fellows who make it so easy to stream sporting events in real time, commercial free?

Broadcast Television is a joke, why be told when and where and how to watch...On Demand is the way of the future... future.... future.....

ok i have rethought my position, after careful re-reading i agree that wanting to shoot the tv is pretty low. actually doing it would be a 3.

heres about a 5:

I hate commercials that sell shit that doesn't actually exist. For example, Bing. Bing says it solves the problem of "search overload" by being a DECISION engine. However, it's really not any different than any other search engine. They just made up a difference that doesn't actually exist. Or TD Ameritrade that says they're different because they offer more than just a few ETFs. Well, since they're traded on an exchange, ANY broker offers you access to ALL ETFs. The benefit they're selling doesn't actually exist.

I hate that shit.

He is one of my favourite writers and I'm not asking you this to set you up for a speech about him

What book of his are you reading?

I am amazed every time I pick up one of his books how kindly and personal he presents the content, like he is sitting with me, looking me eye to eye with Love.

Commercials are why I don't have cable. Waste of money I rather find things on the internet or play a video game if I m going to watch something
