You haven't heard of Anonymous?

Anonymous (group) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"[Anonymous is] the first internet-based superconsciousness. Anonymous is a group, in the sense that a flock of birds is a group. How do you know they're a group? Because they're travelling in the same direction. At any given moment, more birds could join, leave, peel off in another direction entirely."

Thanks for posting this, being. Their statement is all kinds of badass... reminds of the hope they give, in a weird way.

I especially liked the letter that they posted on the hijacked website.

just goes to show you how computer illiterate people still really are. for there to be a 'security' company that gets completely destroyed that I'm sure had plenty of unknowing customers paying them to do nothing

^Ah my bad, I actually was referring to the letter on the hijacked website that you posted.

Exactly, I love how they can take the legs right out from under big business... A security company, no less!

forgot to quote the article

Quote:
On Sunday night, cyber vigilantes 'Anonymous' went full throttle against a security firm that claimed to know the identities of the group, which operates "Operation Payback" and reportedly includes members of the "/b/" bulletin board 4chan.org.
The hack exposed Social Security numbers, publicized private e-mails, deleted company files, replaced the phone system, and attacked the LinkedIn accounts of employees at California-based HBGary Federal, a security firm.
On Friday Aaron Barr, CEO of HBGary Federal, was quoted in the Financial Times as having identified the founding leaders of Anonymous, which has claimed responsibility for recent distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on companies that had severed ties with WikiLeaks. Anonymous was also allegedly responsible for shutting down pro-government Web sites in Egypt and Tunisia. Forbes said Barr was planning to sell the information to the FBI.
On Sunday evening at 6:30pm Eastern, the hackers appeared to take over Barr's Twitter account and tweeted: "IT BEGINS. THE ANONYMOUS HAND SWINGS FOR A LULZY B****SLAP. #anonymous #takeover #hbgary."
Soon enough, Barr's Twitter page was filled racial and sexual slurs and had published Barr's mobile phone and Social Security numbers. Furthermore, according to reports, HBGary.com was temporarily replaced with a message: "Let us teach you a lesson you'll never forget: don't mess with Anonymous." This letter has since been replaced by a holding page.
DailyKos also reported that Anonymous deleted the firm's backups and posted over 60,000 company e-mails on Pirate Bay.
Unlike the DDoS attacks for which Anonymous is usually known, the group said via Barr's Twitter account that it performed the hack by duping people to gain access into HBGary's system, a hacker technique known as social engineering.
In January, Anonymous declared "war" against police for arresting five men associated the Wikileaks-related attacks, including the Web sites of Visa, MasterCard, Amazon, and PayPal.

Anonymous Hackers Reveal HBGary and Aaron Barr's Plan to Target WikiLeaks Donors - New York News - Runnin' Scared

Quote:
Aaron Barr, a computer security expert for HBGary, spoke last week to the Financial Times, telling the paper that he had gathered incriminating information about the shadowy hacker group known as Anonymous, a general source of online chaos and most recently, diligent supporters of WikiLeaks. In response, Anonymous promptly hacked Barr's email, Twitter and company website, spreading the results of his investigation across the web. Now, the group has set up a WikiLeaks-style website, known as AnonLeaks, where all of Barr and his colleague's emails can be searched, read and downloaded.

The portal sites of emails, mirrored here and here, reveals HBGary's contract with Bank of America and a promise from the computer security team to target not just WikiLeaks, but the thousands of private citizens who have donated money to the group.

One PowerPoint presentation details the "WikiLeaks Threat" and, as Forbes summarizes, suggests "Nixonesque tactics for sabotaging the site on behalf of Bank of America, including spreading misinformation, launching cyberattacks against it, and pressuring journalists." Barralso wrote that security firms "need to get people to understand that if they support the organization we will come after them," threatening anyone even tangentially affiliated with WikiLeaks. A more specific target for Barr's group is named: Salon's Glenn Greenwald, who has written extensively about WikiLeaks, more often than not, in support.

The other firms in question -- Planatir and Berico Technologies -- joined HBGary to the prepare the reports for Bank of America, thought to be the next WikiLeaks target. But in their attempts to fortify the financial institution, all three security firms put a target on their own backs. Via Forbes, here's another Barr email:

"The Wikileaks and Anonymous guys think they are doing the people justice by without much investigation or education exposing information or targeting organizations? BS. Its about trying to take power from others and give it to themeselves. I follow one law. Mine."

To Anonymous, that's a challenge.
...
http://martianmelaine.com/2011/02/12/anon-leaks/
Anon discovered HBGary has a genuine stuxnet copy as well... A virus that was tested in Israel.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/16/wo...16stuxnet.html

Shit's getting real.

must say, for a security firm they were very free in attaching all sorts of stuff to some emails.

nothing was encrypted

some of the forensic software I'm going to have to study up on.

My favorite portion of the Wiki page about Anonymous(so far at least) is the last line of the Gene Simmons part.

Quote:
During the 2010 MIPCOM convention, Gene Simmons of rock band KISS stated:

Quote:
Make sure your brand is protected… Make sure there are no incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars. Don't let anybody cross that line.[77]
In response to the remarks, members of Anonymous launched a DDoS attack against GeneSimmons.com and SimmonRecords.com, shutting down both sites. Although the attack was not officially part of Operation Payback at first, since the operation's leading members did not want to attack an artist, it was held by its members.[78] They later announced Simmons website as a target.[79]

In response to the attack, Simmons wrote:
Quote:
Some of you may have heard a few popcorn farts re: our sites being threatened by hackers.
Our legal team and the FBI have been on the case and we have found a few, shall we say "adventurous" young people, who feel they are above the law.
And, as stated in my MIPCOM speech, we will sue their pants off.
First, they will be punished.
Second, they might find their little butts in jail, right next to someone who's been there for years and is looking for a new girl friend.
We will soon be printing their names and pictures.
We will find you.
You cannot hide.
Stay tuned.[80]
In response, the sites were again attacked and taken offline.[81][82][83]

to affect Simmons you have to hurt his money.

he's pretty much an asshole as I noted when he appeared on Apprentice, maybe it was just his bad acting.

hey now...any ps players need this key ?
