My fucking dog ran away... again!

For those of you who remember, I had two dogs that managed to climb up, break a window, and escape the house about, oh, a month ago. Well, since then, we've been keeping one or the other caged, so they don't get each other riled up. Up till now, it's worked great.

However, when my wife and I were out tonight, the one loose dog decided to climb up, pry off the board I had covering the broken window, and escape again.

Fortunately, I'm in So-Cal, so the temp will not drop to meat locker levels, but it's still supposed to drop to freezing tonight (and there's a 40% chance of rain). I drove around for about three hours, and didn't find her, and I checked all the roads she could have gotten hurt on (including the freeway) as well. Since she's a total carpet dog, I'm hoping her tender paws will put a limit on how far she can get. Since I didn't find her anywhere in the adjacent neighborhoods, my hope is that she's found a place to hunker down for the night (hopefully a neighbor's garage or yard).

Anyway, beam me some good vibes that she turns up tomorrow. She's my son's dog, and he's due to come home Monday from Vegas.

Sucks, stupid dawg will probably learn to stop running away when she wants feeding again

you could always leave some food/water by the back door, although another animal might just help themselves

sucks, house dogs can get lost easy , as their tracking skills aren't up too that of outdoor pups.

those types of hounds have both a ground scent , and air scent capability, that helps the to stay on track, of other animals...and themselves.

lacking these skills , they get lost and cant find their way back.

Hope she is found , or returns home soon.

No. We had her fixed years ago. She's just prone to anxiety attacks. I figured the main problem was the other big dog, who she avoids generally, so we kept them separated when we went out.

Well, so far, she's still at large. It didn't rain last night, but it was as cold as a witch's tit. Animal Control isn't open today, so we'll have to wait. We were out again this morning looking for her, but still no luck. My son is supposed to come back tomorrow, so we're not looking forward to that. He's going to be really upset. Hopefully, someone posts a "found dog" sign or we can get her back from the Pound.

Yeah, in fact I just did that about an hour ago. I tried to hit all the stop signs on roads leading out of our neighborhood, so hopefully, if someone saw her, or took her in, they'll find them.

At this point, I think the best bet is someone called animal control and she's at the pound. I say this because we've canvassed the entire area multiple times, and have found neither live dog nor dead. I figure if she was hit by a car, we'd have found her. I'm hoping this is the case, anyway. The only other thing is, that I can think of, is if someone decided to keep her, but she's not a cool breed or anything, just a mutt. So I think it's unlikely.

Anyway, wish me some luck with the pound. I'll be calling them tomorrow.

Update.

The short version is, she's safe and sound at home.

I went to the pound this morning and she wasn't there. However, our pound has an internet site where they post pix of dogs that come in, and according to the staff there, they updated it all day long, so it's uber current.

Well, I checked it out this afternoon, and there she was! So, I went down, and after about two hours and $140 worth of red tape, I got her back. Now, she's sleeping it off at my feet as I type these words.

On my way home from the pound, I get a call from the person who took her down there (she found one of my posters), to tell me that Amber was at the pound. I also learned that this lady had taken her in shortly after she ran away, so my dog spent no nights out in the cold. It was a great relief. I hooked her up with a $50 reward, which it turns out she needed because her phone was turned off and she was living on disability, so it was cool because I was able to return a good deed. Things are better on both sides of the equation after this.

Anyway, here's Amber's mugshot from the pound. Now she's licensed, up to date on her shots, and chipped (I know, should have done that shit before) so all is cool with the world. Now, she's passed out hard, tired from her adventure, and everyone's story gets a happy ending.

Thanks for being there for me, YaHooka (as always).
