It's amazing to me that one entity (if you can call the net one entity) can be so full of completely useful information, yet at the same time carry such useless information.

When I was younger, I had no idea how people transitioned to the game changers of technology. !00 years ago no one had a fridge. For us today we can't imagine not having one. But I'm sure there were lots of people who thought a fridge was the most frivilous thing ever. An icebox is just fine. No sense in spending money on such foolishness. Same with cars, televisions, phones.

But I've lived long enough to hear people say the same thing about computers, cell phones, the net. They start off shaking their heads disdainfully about why anyone would think they needed a computer. And within a few years they have one of their own, and can't imagine like without it. I did the same thing with the Kindle over a period of as couple months. Digital book? Stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Then I got one for Xmas. Fuck, how did I live without it?

The world has always been on the verge of a nervous breakdown relative to its population and time. Imagine if we had worldwide televised/internet media coverage of the Crusades or even the migration of the slaves after the civil war. You would think we were going to implode at any second!

So I would say the only reason that people weren't afraid of everything is that people weren't even aware of how much out there that there is to be afraid of. We have more responsibility as an individual now as we grow together as a human race. The individual now grows up knowing they need to help along the cause of human rights, freedoms, climate change/taking care of a fragile environment, corruption in governments, etc..

Things are not 'bad' at all, we're just maturing as a species and its painful/scary sometimes to come into our own power. I think its f'in exciting!
I know that all the bad stuff was there. I get that. I just think that we're seriously addicted to being afraid now. That's what I mean by the world is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. We're not just afraid of the stuff that was once hidden. We're afraid of our own shadow. Every news story, every commercial, every TV show; all of it gives us things to be afraid of, from our children being abducted to getting cancer to economic meltdown.

Mark Twain once said, “Some of the worst things in my life never even happened”. Well, that's become our lives. I made the point recently that you're twice as likely in the US to be struck by lightning than to be killed by terrorists, yet look at how we've reacted. I grew up with the threat of nuclear war over the world's head, and while we were scared, we never went crazy like we did with the patriot act, torture, and testicular irradiation at the airports.

Things really are different, now. We're boiling in fear, especially here in America, and it's like we prefer it that way.

What are said four laws, because the way I remember Marshall McLuhan, he was more weird and interesting rhetoric than actual substance.

I understand what you're saying but I cannot put a blanket assumption across the entire country, nevertheless the entire human population. Turn off the TV and its a whole different world and I seriously mean that. The world I interact with seems to be becoming more aware, responsible, connected and strong. So, I suppose its just where you're looking that defines what you think 'the world' is doing at any given time.

You should check out this book sometime, made me realize that there is actually an equal amount of goodness and love to balance out all that fear you're describing (thats the only way it can be), but you just need to know where to look for it and its not on the TV or news reports.

what's a good torrent client?
I use bittorrent , mostly magnet link on anything with 50/50 seeds peers...

fake verified torrents are becoming a pain in the arse tho.

Agent news for news groups ...I subscribe to astraweb unlimited , (but they can detect more than one login on the same account, so shared accounts have to wait )

torrents are better than groups overall .

but there's some groups that still rule.

It doesn't take the majority to change the world, just a good amount of exceptions....of which I think there are plenty.
