If you are using gloss paint, I'd guess it'd cost you aaround $1000, car paint is pretty expensive shit. I'm basing this off of what my dad charges for fixing scratches etc. (Around $500 for 2 door panels). But, I'm guessing you'd be getting this done at a shop, who would probably have deals with companies, so it may be cheaper.

Maaco offers a good deal. They get a lot of shit reviews because people expect to see factory quality paint and they either don't prep it themselves or don't pay to have it done. I think they offer a sand blast job for about $200 and masking is included in the cost of the paint job itself (but not very well) and they don't do inside your door jams (as far as I know). The quality of paint really depends on how much you want to spend. Don't get red.
For a professional auto body shop to sand, fill, prime, base coat and clear coat will probably cost about 1700. Since I really don't have a lot of big flat surfaces on my Jeep and I take it in the woods I painted it myself. I originally wanted to spray bomb it but a case of cans runs about $70 and I couldn't find a good olive drab color so I mixed up some Rustoleum enamel and applied about 12 water-thin coats with a foam roller. Cost me about $60 for all the supplies and I still have a quart left I use for touch up all the time.

There is no such thing as a good, cheap paint job. You either have to pay for the proper job including prep work and quality paint. You can get an inexpensive semi-quality spray from places like Maaco and Earl Schieb but you have to do the prep yourself if you want a decent job and even that isn't guaranteed since the actual painting is the monkey work.
Check the local CC's and high schools and see if anyone has a program available for painting cars, they like volunteers.

a basic paint job should cost you around 125 to 250 bucks.
problem is, most shops aren't setup profit wise to want to take the small jobs. this is basic. dupont or (can't remember the other one) enamel , no clearcoat , no mirror finish, little sanding prep (then a wipe down with PrepSol), no holes filled. Find an independent shop, and smoke him/her up when you show em the job/car.

If you want a nice paintjob your looking @ between $1200-$2500 depending on vehicle and the clear around the midwest. But if your not real worried about it being factory quality, Maaco is gonna be just fine. I've seen their work on some of my friends trucks and it was alright. Don't get a dark color or you might see the gun lines.

I've always told myself that if I had a car I would paint the body panels all different colors or so it looks like it's made from Legos.

The lego idea is pretty interesting. I'd like to see that but with window tint that makes it look like a lego person is driving. Gangstar!

haha,
thanks for all the responses. I was skeptical of 200 paint jobs. I wish i would have just picked out a black elantra isntaed of a silver one. or maybe just not have gotten an elantra ![]() factory paint is probably already better no matter what you do right?
