Satisfy my curiosity. College debt.

How many of our students are in debt because of school?

I'm gonna keep it to American college/trade-tech school students.

How many of you had to go into debt to get educated?

My Wife received her Undergrad and graduate work at Canadian Universities.
My answer doesn't count.

Unless by 'American' you were including North and South America...
But I'm pretty sure you are only addressing the US.

I'll be working to pay my loans off, but it'll be worth it.

I think.......

i go to a fairly cheap school and have a good amount of scholarship money so i dont pay tuition

i just need to maintain a certain gpa (which is looking less and less likely) and do like 70 hours volunteer work a semester. not too bad of a deal

Ive been goin to a community college for the past two years. Im gonna stay here and rack up as many credits as possible before i have to transfer. Another semester MAYBE two left here. Then i gotta transfer to a uni or w.e

My moms been paying my community college tuition for now.

Ill be in debt once i transfer for sure. ESPECIALLY if i stay in jersey.
Id love to go to school else where but community college credits transfer like shit to out of state schools apparently so idk... ill be paying out the ass regardless.
Trying to minimize future debt as much as possible.

:/

I had a good amount of debt going to college.

I believed at the end of it though, eventually my salary will pay it back easily.

Eventually, I was right.

well first round of college (1973 ish) grants were easy to get, had no debt but had to work some while there for separate housing/partying/car expenses.

second time around (1996) had lots of debt, went into default but paid it off in 5 years.

my son went a 4 year college in the US, and you can just about triple that number.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Cost of Attendance to attend Penn State depends on the campus. Cost of Attendance is far more important than tuition, because COA represents the total expense to attend a year of school, whereas tuition is just the cost of the classes themselves. The Cost of Attendance at most Penn State campuses is approximately $21,110 per year, it's a little higher at Altoona, Berks, Erie and Harrisburg, and about $23,851 at University Park.

qft.

Luckily though, you can essentially claim hardship forever [even if you are gainfully employed] and defer your payments for as long as you need to.

Basically after 4 years of University and my upcoming 1 year post-grad this fall, I'll be at around $30,000.
