My parents in a move of epic failportions ordered one of those infomercial computers in late 98-99, you know the ones "where if you call in the next 30 min we will give you 800 free program cds that may or may not work with your new obsolete piece of puter"...
The spec sheet said that it had an athlon 250 processor, which was a lie 32 gb hard drive, which was a lie (it was 16gb, no partitions) 21 inch flat screen monitor, which was a lie (it was a old school fatty 16 inches) 500 mb ram, 2x 250mb, which was a lie (there was only one 250mb) of the 120 cds of programs, 2/3 were utter shite, of the other 1/3 about 6 total worked and only 2 weren't rendered worthless by not packaging the product key... Since i was just a kid and the only one who used it, they didn't really give a shit as they were paying 199 a month payments on the son of a bitch for 2 fucking years....

My first PC was a desktop, lemme see if I can recall the specs..
250 MB RAM Intel Pentium II Processor 10 GB Hard Drive 100 GB External HD I can't remember monitor size... real shitty vacuum tube type box. OS was Windows XP, but shit it had to be a 2000 era machine. I got it on its dying legs for free, took it to college, got a laptop, and turned the CPU box into a single plant grow box. That was one advantage to that fucking dinosaur, it was pretty good sized after all the interior got scraped.

or some called it bip. I think it was an atari game console that only played tennis. you could adjust paddle size and speed. my into to video gaming...a diversion from an excellent and long lasting obsession with pinball games. ![]() to include that bowling game where you slide this heavy metal puck towards the pins.(won alot of beers with that one) speaking of playing for beers, anyone else good at pool/billiards ?

Um, I know my first comp came when I was 6 or 7. A 486, with 32mb ram, fucking.. 3x CD drive I think? Actually 32mb of ram sounds like too much. Maybe it was a 32mb hard drive I'm thinking.
Back then it was all about Tie Fighter. I mean 1st it was asteroids and tetris, but fuck that shit, Tie Fighter. To this day the best space flight game ever. Better than Freespace. Better than your mom. And yeah, Jazz Jackrabbit was the tits. Oh Epic.. Megagames! Epic is what it is, but Epic Megagames was something else entirely. Unreal, and original Unreal Tournament was the pinnacle of those guys.

Heh I had a 25mhz IBM 386 clone with DOS/DOS shell/Windows 3.0 which was later upgraded to Windows 3.1.
I remember it had 2 floppy disk drives. One for 5¼-inch disks, and another for 3½-inch floppy disks. It also had a 2400kbps modem. I forget how much RAM it had. This was in 1989/1990. My parents and I both used it. I learned how to type on it and I remember going on the then very basic internet service Prodigy. I also would get on the Terminal program and call up my friend who had a Mac and a separate phone line for his computer which I didn't have and we'd chat that way. I also remember playing lots of games on it while growing up. Games like Doom 1, Wolfenstein, King's quest, some of the Carmen Sandiego games, the Eco quest games, some of the quest for glory games, Tetris, solitaire, all sorta games coded in BASIC, and the original Sim City. Thanks for making this thread it brings back some good memories.
