Boy Critical After Being Shot; Police Hunt For Suspects - News Story - WHIO Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- An afternoon press conference may reveal details about the hunt for two men who Dayton police say shot at a car and injured a 7-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy, who is in critical condition.

The boy, Quayshon Hill, was shot in the head when two men fired at least 12 times at a car Thursday night on North Gettysburg Avenue, according to Dayton police.

Quayshon and his 7-year-old sister, Tayjanae Hill, were in the back seat of a car driven by their mother, Schaunte Hill, parked at Hooks House of Bar B.Q., on Gettysburg Avenue when the men opened fire, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said.

Tayjanae suffered a glancing blow to the arm and has since been released from Children's Medical Center. A 2-year-old girl was also in the back seat, but she was not hit by any of the bullets.

Quayshon was was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and later transported to Children's, where he remains in critical condition.

Police are hunting for two suspects who they believe drove away in a maroon Chevrolet.

Investigators said they do not know why the family's car was targeted or what type of weapon was used. The family lives in West Carrollton.

A large crowd gathered at the scene as police shut down five blocks of Gettysburg Avenue to investigate.

"It's crazy. I feel for the family," said Quan Webster of Dayton. "I'm gonna pray for them. The only thing we can do is come together and pray about it."

Homicide detectives were also called to the scene.

The mother drove to Stop-and-Shop at the corner of Gettysburg and St. Johns avenues to get help, police said.

black on black crimes and senseless killings will never stop it seems. but shit just seems to get progressively worse.

car got shot up 12 times, there were three children in the car, one of which had to have been in a car seat (2 yo). I don't understand how they had not seen the kids before they decided to shoot it up.

So therefore regardless of whether they had the right target or not, they don't care about shootin up kids. If it was the right target they would have shot up his kids too.

I've really seen a growing number of this kinds of incidents where kids get shot.

Man what kind of a hell it must be to be afraid to even go outside your house or let your kids play in the front yard or at the playground.

The woman probably knows damned well who shot her up and why. I'm pretty sure if someone shot my kids I'd choose helping the police bust them over following some ghetto code.
