government shuts down huge poker sites like pokerstars...
i was just reading an article last week about some kid who make 200k a year playing poker online... i guess hes gonna have to get a job now
![]() heres why this is good, but also sucks. these poker sites were usually set up or organized by foreign groups because online gambling is technically illegal in the us.... but thru legal bulshit they were able to have american players join their sites which were hosted offshore or started offshore, and then to basically flaunt the law and have all the american money go to whatever country the site was based in - so thats why this is kinda good. the reason it sucks, is because online gambling should NOT BE ILLEGAL- why is regular gambling in a casino ok but online gambling is illegal? it makes literally no sense. so the good that might come from this is if they make it legal- then american companies can set up online sites and get the money from american poker players to stay here rather than go somewhere else... the problem is, it probably wont be made legal... but all the major casinos in vegas have been lobbying for it to be made legal because intead of no name pokerstars or whatever, u could be playing on the bellagio poker site or the treasure island online gambling site- which would be probably higher quality, flashy animations and sitch, and would bring keep all that poker money here rather than send it to the caymans... i guess we'll have to see what happens. but i think it should be made legal , and we should start taxing it- NOW.... christ with the tax revenue from that and mj legalization we could probably plug the budget gaps without cuts or new taxes.... but that would be thinking outside the two party bulshit box so obviously it wont happen ./ MMA Sponsor Shakeup: FBI Shuts Down Full Tilt Poker, Others | Bleacher Report

Right on! Tax the fuck out of it! if you want to play and win... its part of the price of living in America the best country in the world!
I have a buddy, one of those guys who it always seems like is just stepping in it, makes $$$$$$ playing online poker! Poker online isnt a right, if you want to play you should have to pay....it's the price of doing business in the best country in the world....My same feeling about the millionaire tax... its the price of doing business!

You can't make a dollar or spend a dollar in this country without forking over a cut to the government. There's nothing right about that.

Yeah I agree, make it legal, in Canada to, have it a legitimate business. I made money with Full Tilt and those fuckers never gave it to me, and there's no real way for me to sniff it out because the business itself is really convoluted.
Bring us online gambling with real laws in place, make this shit legit.

i have said before that a compromise i would support could be something along the lines of what chuck schumer wanted where they really do make it a millionaries tax where the higher level starts on income over 1 million, or 700k or something....

They're not shut down, they've just had their US domain names seized, pokerstars is still working fine here, and everywhere else outside the USA.

so what happens with all the money people had on their accounts? i had forty bucks on there that i played $1 tournaments with once in a while, so it not that great of a loss, but lots of people play for much higher stakes, i know a guy who plays regularly and he's got a couple g's tied up into it.

Why are casinos ok but online gambling not?
I figure it's a lot easier for kids to lose money online than it would be in a real casino.

^Not to mention someone can loose the family's life savings chasing losses while his wife thinks he is just watching porn or something.
But degens are gonna degen. Poker is a game of skill and isn't really gambling anyways. Also, if it is your primary source of income in Canada, you are supposed to pay taxes on it. I'm pretty sure you have to pay taxes in the USA on any "gambling" winnings. For now it looks like people outside of the States are getting their funds, it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months/years. |

competition is pretty soft now that practically all the american players are gone, played last night for the first time in a while, placed first in a 27-man sit-and-go, won ten bucks (1$ buyin, dont make fun of me, im poor).
on the flip side i wanted to play a 90man tourney but it was taking ages to fill up and people kept unregistering, maybe ill have better luck tonight.

not that i wanna brag or anything, but i just placed first in a 45 man tourney for the first time ever; won seventeen bucks and change. competion is a lot weaker now that the americans cant play, its all just random 3rd worlders playing. who knows how long this will last, so get em while its hot. now is the time if ever to get into online poker, provided you're outside the us and that you know your shit.
nope

no the update makes it so you cant play if you're in the states. apparently there is still a few people out there in the us who've been playing non-stop since just before black friday who havent logged out so they didnt get the update yet.
