Here's the scene:
We were enjoying the nice spring weather from our balcony. A friend was visiting on his bike, and he rode up on the sidewalk from the street to our front door. In NYC this is illegal. You are supposed to stop in the street, get off the bike and walk it on the sidewalk. Although he was merely coming from the street up to our front door, those few second were illegal. NYPD rolls up and tickets him for this ($150 fine or appear in court!).

Meanwhile our neighbor walks by while this scene is unfolding. They exchange some banter. We all laughed. He keeps walking.

From there everything escalates... Seems completely unnecessary to me...

At the end of the day, he was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

cops are nothing to joke with. thats all i have to say about the title. be smart, dont fuck with them.

that said a great majority of cops are authority-obsessed peons who got hit too much as kids and now need to take it out on someone else. but i would rather they be here than not.

I don't understand why people can respect authority. The do not make the laws they enforce them.

I've known some great people who are cops, but you should only talk to them when they aren't in uniform. People just go crazy with power. It has nothing to do with the country becoming a police state. It just has to do with the fact his co-workers stood there and watched their colleague do something they knew was wrong but didn't stand up for them.
