Hurrah!

The Top 50 Best Restaurants 1-50 | The World?s 50 Best Restaurants

Noma tops world's best restaurant list for second year in succession | Life and style | The Guardian

I gotta go there some time.

Nordic cuisine is the new black.

funny coincidence, i just got the noma book from the library:

Quote:
The rest of the Danish restaurant world laughted at Noma's gastronomic concept. Even some of Rene's closest allies in the profession poured scorn on these insubstantial visions and and gave the restaurant nicknames like 'Blubber Restaurant', the 'Whale Penis' and the 'Seal-Fucker'.
personally im not impressed with some of the things: a dish of fresh cheese with sprigs of spruce needles on it, Beef tartare with wood sorrel, tarragon and juniper.

i think that salt cod and pickled beets is still just salt cod and pickled beets even if you serve them with rowanberries and a modest sprinkling of gently toasted caraway seeds on a freshly split birch log.

To be completely honest I've never been there, and the pics I've seen haven't really impressed me either.

If I had the choice (highly unlikely) between noma and say Fat Duck, I'd pick the Fat Duck in a heartbeat.

I guess it all comes down to taste. In Heston's Feast: 80'ies Feast, Heston Blumenthal did a toast with cheese, ketchup, mushrooms and 3 kinds of pork. I didn't think it looked that special, but the guests where just flabbergasted when they ate it. Maybe it's the same with the Salt Cod?

I dunno, I'd have to try myself sometime. See what all the hype is about. I just need to procure 4000 dkr. Damn.

I do believe Noma is going to close soon, correct me if I am wrong. I have eaten at several of the top 50 restaurants in the world, all of them in the US... I enjoyed a meal at Alinea last March is was on of my top 3 experiences in my life.
Now that i think about it Bulli was the restaurant that recently closed.
Per Se was amazing I can't wait to go to French Laundry. I think Daniel and Momofuku are over rated. amazing restaurants but in comparison to Alinea they do not come close.
Alinea was not just ...eating at a nice restaurant... is was a whole experiences.

Please, please go! I sure you will love it!
and the new René Redzepi book is gorgeous!

You think they are going to close soon?

I haven't heard anything about that.

There was a chef from noma who broke off and started his own more affordable gourmet food restarurant in another part of town.
