Man Shot Several Times, In Critical Condition - News Story - WHIO Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- A man is listed in critical condition after he's shot several times during a robbery.

The shooting happened Monday around 9 p.m. in an alley off Darst Avenue in Dayton. Eyewitnesses reported hearing seven or eight gunshots.

Police said one man was shot several times with gunshot wounds to the leg, arm and chest. He is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

A shot time later, another man on South Euclid Avenue called police to report he was shot. Police are investigating whether or not this man is a suspect in the shooting on Darst Avenue.

Neighbors told us the area where the Darst shooting happened has a known drug house. Dayton resident, Eric Spain said, "The whole neighborhoods been complaining for five years and as far as we're concerned the city's failed to act. It takes something like this which endangers a lot of children and innocent people for the city to finally do something about this."

Homicide investigators were called to the scene after detectives learned one of the victim's injuries are life threatening.

Investigators are trying to talk to both victims to see what information they can learn. They are also looking for two other suspects.

Shooting Of Grandmother In Riverside May Be Retaliation - News Story - WHIO Dayton

A Riverside grandmother was shot while someone opened fire on her house around 3 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said the crime could be connected to the shooting of a 10-year-old boy in Dayton, when someone opened fire on his mother’s car.

Dayton police documents issued over the weekend warned of a possible attack happening in Riverside in retaliation to the nearly deadly shooting of the boy last week.

The 41-year-old Riverside grandmother was shot once in the leg while inside her home at 5298 Underwood Road, in a neighborhood between Woodman Drive and Spinning Road.

Officers said opened fire on the house and sprayed it with at least 30 bullets.

The woman, her daughter and 6-month-old granddaughter were all inside when the shots were fired.

Police said they believe the shooter stood on the sidewalk then ran down the street and hopped in a tan or brown sedan driven by a second man.

According to the Dayton police documents, crews were “advised that there was supposed to be some kind of retaliation in Riverside in reference to the 10-year-old being shot.”

Riverside Police Chief Mark Reiss said this about the shootings being connected: “It's impossible to say with certainty if they are or they are not. But certainly we would be remiss if we didnt' look at them as being related or possibly related. Among the other theories that we have, that's one that we will actively work.”

The boy was shot in the face Thursday while sitting in the car with his mother at Hooks Bar B-Q. He is expected to recover, but with life-long injuries to his face.

If this was a retaliation attack, it’s apparently not the only one. A man in Dayton was attacked by several men demanding he tell them who shot the child. That man was not seriously injured.

Officers arrived and said they saw the man with the gun and then called the SWAT Team. Officers evacuated several homes on Ferngrove Drive as a precaution.

Mike Yinger, who lives nearby, said, "Came out here and stood in front yard for a bit and the next I know, a couple of shots went off and they came over the loud speaker and told him to stop shooting at police."

The teen made it out of the house, but the 38-year-old man inside made it clear that he was not coming out because he was distraught over a failed relationship with his girlfriend.

Maj. Bob Chabali said, "That relations apparently fell apart this morning and he's very despondent over that. There's indication history of this over six months, but no criminal record on him."

Members of the SWAT Team positioned themselves around the house and began to communicate with the man. After nearly four hours, he gave himself up.

"Try to have a reason instead of be emotional, and he was cooperative once we got him to reason and realize he needed to come out for his own safety and safety of the neighborhood," Chabali said.

Some neighbors said they hope that the man gets the help, but also pays the price for disturbing their peace and quiet and for putting a lot of people in danger.

The man is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

It makes for an interesting topic, why have the police been derelict for five years until a wild west shoot out stirs it up?

Because there is no money is busting crack heads and gangsters, in fact there is a lot of money in not busting crack heads and gangsters, it's how you justify a police budget large enough to buy armored cars and military style weaponry and shit to keep the animals down.

Best way to keep the animals in line is educate them when they are young, teach them that murder and robbery and rape and shit isn't the fucking 'norm' and that there are other things in life than the thug lifestyle so readily glorified in the media.

Although personally I think every fourth grade class should start with an airing of an episode of COPS followed by a twenty minute discussion on why the guy in hand cuffs is a fucking moron, but I digress...

No, keep the crack heads on crack, keep the gangsta's killin' and thuggin'. It's good for business, coppin' business, so good in fact they're gonna have to hire some more cops to keep these uneducated fools in line.

But, where we gonna get the cash to make sure our public is safe inside their locked box with their guns and DVD players and all that shit you bought?

Thanks man. You know shit is hard sometimes, and there are things we can't tell from across the bandwidth.
