I hate to play into J's retardation but also a lot of Northern black people have a lot of family in the south.

Don't forget that a lot of northern black families are only one-two-three generations removed from southern life, and still have family there. This also explains a lot of what is commonly interpreted as black dialect in the north.

A lot of young blacks have grandparents and parents that were alive in the racist segregated south. Young people, blacks included, are all flocking to the south east and south west in recent years. There's a lot more work to be had, and the south offers a more comfortable lifestyle in general.

also i just realized why i thought it was down south. because in the intro talking wyclef does hes like "this goes out to all the brothas taking long trips down south... etc." i dunno if that means the drug run, or the trip to prison.... but its not in the lyrics but it is in the intro talking part. so bleh.
