^maybe if the software cost less than 3000$ and wasn't available for free then we can start a rational discussion about how much I'd be willing to invest for a legit copy. It seems like this debate wouldn't be happening if I was asked to donate a small amount of money instead of buying a car

That's a fair question you've brought up...

How many of us can say we have ponied up some money for some shareware or shot off a PayPal donation because you liked a program.

I have.

I've downloaded gigs and gigs of music... I bought the stuff I liked the most on vinyl... I bought more vinyl because I got to try it out for free first.

The mainstream music industry doesn't like it because it cuts out their marketing bullshit- their product is weak so they lose.

I pirate shit because I'm a cheap bastard and I don't know them. Is it wrong? Yes of course. Do I feel bad? Not really. Sorry, if you're making over $100,000 a year to make music for a living, I don't really feel bad for your loss of profit. You make more than educators and shit.
Since everyone's talking music: The bottom line is artists are raped by the music companies on their CDs. They make a few cents on the dollar. Artists make all their money touring so most could give a shit if you pirate. In fact, most would welcome it.. That is why Lars (Metalica) is such an ass-hole. He was just a shill for the big music corps. Lars is a fucking piece of shit tool. I haven't listened to Metalica since the Napster fiasco. Even when they come on the radio I change the station.

Sorry, if you're making over $100,000 a year marketing someone elses music to 13 year old girls and gangsta thug wannabe's or whatever the latest pop trend du'jour is for a living, I don't really feel bad for your loss of profit. In fact I hope your fortunes are as fleeting as the fortunes of shit artists you peddle. I am at least honest about my 'theft' where you have your lawyers call it fees and percentages and returns and steal waaaaay more from the artist than I ever would.

I'll say it...
