For those who have been around awhile, you know I live in a small, big city. In so much as we are a large city, where I live still has a small town feel. In this city, there is a Planned Parenthood office, this clinic does not do any medical procedures beyond pregnancy testing and dispensing of contraceptives. They do refer, as all Planned Parenthood offices do, patients who wish another option to the proper medical personnel in order to achieve that goal.

First and foremost be aware that I am unable to have an opinion as to whether or not a woman should or shouldn't have access to an abortion because I won't be any kind of responsible for her decision. It ain't my kid, I ain't her, I have to keep my mouth shut, period.

So anyway, as some of you might know I had a run in with this old man who very boisterously advocated his opinion on the abortion issue.



Now I tried to explain to him that although I commend his resolve, in the modern world his 18th century scare tactics of fire, brimstone and eternal damnation just don't cut it. I even offered to help him design a few ideas of messages that would work but the pig headed asshole forced me to do something I to this day hate myself just a little bit for doing. I shredded the sign and threw it in the street in time for a bus to run it over. I almost went to jail, thankfully the officer who showed up knew what a fucking asshole the old man is (was actually, last I heard he died and it took his 'buddies' a week to come looking for him) and smoothed it all out. I felt sorry when I heard the old man went off to meet whatever fate he feels he deserves, alone with only his hatred and anger.

But I digress...


There had been a lull in the protesting, a few prayer circles and some pamphlets, all in all what I would call a respectable protest.

Well that's all over now. Today I had a run in with the new asshole. The one that believes educating people amounts to shouting scripture and pointing to a brand new poster of the late term (late term abortions are illegal and only performed if the mothers life is in danger.... If you're poor, but that's a whole 'nother can of shit.) fetus and a new group of bible thumping zealots who feel that life begins at conception however it seems to end at birth, at least the role they feel they need to play in it.

I was treated to a dissertation on the holocaust and how Planned Parenthood educating people was tantamount to Hitler and his gassing of millions of jews in order to dominate the world. I was told that although it was his calling from the lord to stop the senseless murder of innocent children, no one asked him to care for the babies of mothers who couldn't or wouldn't take care of them. 'Just because I don't take care of these children doesn't mean I can't stop the parent from taking life away from them.'




Regardless of what kind of life that may be, right?

Once again he flashed back to the beginning of his rhetoric and how Planned Parenthood kills babies by telling women how to use condoms. Every ejaculation should end in a conception, or at least have a chance to is his take.


I might be suddenly enlightened to why he believes the way he does, I mean outside of the religious non-sense, poor guy has probably never had a decent orgasm in his life...


Now here is the fucking twisted part. I have come to believe I don't give a shit about these damned pictures, mostly because I haven't seen them lately but Tuesday they were there and then again today and as I rounded the corner to come home, since the clinic is on the corner of my neighborhood entrance from the main drag, I say in a loud enough to be heard speaking voice 'Go home..." and then around the corner and home I go satisfying my need to voice my opinion without it assaulting anyone either visually or verbally but today the way is blocked by tree crews and I have no choice but to make a U-turn and go back the other way. Now here he is on the corner ready to let me have it with his bible and brimstone and the conversation is on.

I really felt there was some sort of intervention that slapped me face to face with this dick head, at least long enough to let him see me and let him know how I feel.

In the words of Howard Payne "What do you do, WHAT DO YOU DO?!"

Nahhh, it ain't that. It's that I feel a need to try and talk to him but I know it is wrong on two levels, one is I have as much chance of shaking his faith as he does mine and another is I shouldn't be giving this shithead two seconds of my time. A simple itch will usually go away if you ignore it. I won't lead a community crusade, I won't counter protest because all this does is give asshole a feeling that he is accomplishing something more than pissing me off and therefore 'validate' his existence.

Today though, it was just overwhelming, the black cloud of ignorance and hatred that hovered over that corner sucked me into action. Albeit calm, cool and collected action sans any cardboard violence but action all the same.

I dunno man, I just don't know.

The local planned parenthood center is about 3 blocks down from my place. Pretty much everyday there are people standing out front with signs that say "pray to end abortion." Often times when I drive by i get little rage flashes....like seriously everything goes red for a split second and them I'm fine.
I don't like to get into the whole abortion thing too much, but the thought of some poor girl having to deal with religious zealots when she is doing something that could range from birth control counseling, medical issues and yes even abortion, just makes my blood boil. The whole thing wreaks of the sort of religious driven, backwards views of sexuality America is famous for.
It's like you said Oneder, there's a black cloud of ignorance and hatred.

These people never speak about free or affordable and accessible prenatal care for all women. They never speak about outreach programs to young girls to try to boost self esteem, etc. They have no concern for how or what these children are born into, merely the fact that they "get born". Purely propaganda. This reminds me that they are a hopeless breed. Add to that the hate mongering and yelling... sigh. Feel for you dude. As a woman, your stance on the matter is much appreciated.

My problem with abortion protesters is that they, for all intents and purposes, kick women (and more often, girls) when they are down. Considering what a woman is going through when she's decided to get an abortion, the last thing she needs is people shouting in her face and trying to make her feel worse. I shake my head anytime someone talks about "abortion on demand" like women stop in for a mani-pedi and abortion special before heading off to shop. Such people have no idea the effect that such a choice has on a young woman.

i can't read all that right now however my view on abortion is it's wrong. if you can't raise the child because you're a moron then put it up for adoption someone will take it. there are a lot of couple that can't have kids that would love a newborn. even if you were impregnated by a rapist if you don't want it give it up.

however, under special circumstances if the fetus is known to be sick and it's going to be disfigured or retarded then yea i'm cool with that.
