getting ready for work...

I'm going into work in a bit (3rd shift, 7pm-5am) what are youse guyzes tips for psyching oneself up beforehand. I'm not currently taking any drugs but i wanna hear everything you guys do to get pumped.

usually i start with a decent sized meal and sum t.v. hours beforehand then maybe some upbeat music while heading in. i cant wear an ipod at work due to the amount of heavy machinery i work around and the potential danger of not hearing someone shout "Look out!"

lets hear it yahooka.

Dude that sounds like the start of a disaster movie. you'll be swept up buy a giant wave.

Either way I need my coffee. Gotta have the bean. No homo.

The morning fag. Fresh as a seagull after that.

I dunno sometimes the wife makes a pretty good breakfast, and that helps.

It's been a while since I've been really pumped. Again, no homo.

Ok, although I'm currently unemployed I remember the pre-job psych up pretty well.

For me, I would come in a half hour early and listen to music. Really chill music too, like Modest Mouse or some instrumental stuff. That was for the fast food gig anyways. When I did construction, I would actually do stimulants before work, and some durring too. I would get really fucking tired, working a 10 hour day 5 days a week so I felt like I could justify it to myself at least.

i always found its easier to get going for a first shift job even though getting up early kinda sucks. i think it has something to do with being up for like 8 hours before i go to work and dwelling on it. and i tried the whole sleeping til an hour before i start but its just not practical with an infant.

What are you psyching yourself up for exactly? Staying awake?

Man, that is going to be a crappy shift. But to be honest, I always pumped my self up with a nice big fat bowl (or two, or three) before work, regardless of the shift.

-Don't quantify what you're doing with time, ie "Oh, it took me about 10 minutes to do this, so it'll take 20 minutes to do that"

-Avoid looking at the time if at all possible. Let others be the ones to tell you when you're break/lunch is.

-Don't start daydreaming about what you have to do or are going to do once you get home. No matter how much you think about it, there's nothing you'll be able to do about it while at work... all this will achieve is you again being conscious of time and being stressed about it. The end of your shift will come, no need to worry about it!

These things will mainly help with just getting through any shift, but by shifting focus away from time you might find it easier to stay awake for this particular time-frame.

Or just find some blow.

When I worked night shifts (6pm to 6am) I would keep myself going by holding on to the burning hatred I felt for my life. I was in my 40's and still doing that shit, which was lucky, hatewise, I mean.

take your breaks as late as possible.

that way you have less time left when you come back from break.
i usually listen to talk radio on the drive to work to give me stuff to think about. if the mind is busy, its not watching the clock

Get my shit together, get my pants on and go to work. I usually have a "song of the day" that I'll think about which helps with some of the monotony. It's usually reggae or Metallica.

What no pics?
That sounds pretty neat. What do you do for a living?

The Rev
Working night effectively ruined my life.

Could not get fresh enough to socialise, constantly tired. Basicly living in the night.

At first I thought it would be great, "oooh I only have to work 4 days a week". Fast that became 6, since the two days on the rim are used to adjust yourself for a normal rythm.

Fuck I'll never work night again. Ever.
