credit advice

I know yahooka probably isnt the best place to post this, but i got a question

since ive had my credit card, ive paid it off every month so i dont get charged interest, but ive been hearing that to build credit you need to leave a small balance on it.

any of you older hookans, who own homes, pay off car loans, school loans, whats the best way to go about it?

I honestly have no idea what my credit rating is.
I had a loan on a car that I paid off a little early and my credit was good enough to consign for a loan when my Wife bought a car.
We now each have a credit card that carries a $1k balance, we pay it off every month and I have no idea if that helps or hurts me.
I hardly see how paying it off would hurt at all, but it could very well be giving me a bland score or something?

I'm sure there is some way for you to find that out for yourself online or talking to your bank.

Throw it in a drawer and don't use it, the risks associated with unsecured debt outweigh the benefit of paying 12% forever for something that cost $9.99 in the first place.

The only type of loan you ever need to get is a simple interest loan with a set term, you want to know that there will be a day when the loan ends.

i have called my bank, 3 different branches, and when i talk to the people working there they say "i dont know youd have to call a credit company" or "ive heard both ways, sorry dont know the right answer"

i got the credit card through my bank so i could build up my credit at the time because i wanted a loan for a new truck(glad i didnt pursue that)

thinking maybe i should switch to a credit union instead of BofA theyre a bunch of idiots with there heads up there asses

DO NOT THINK! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

I paid $15 to join my local credit union over 10 years ago, that is the only fee I have ever paid to my credit union.

I even bounced a check once, I went in and said flat out 'Hey yeah, I screwed up but that $25 fee is gonna kill me because now I'll be short on something else. I can throw the cash in right now to cover what the check was short.'

She says to me, "Yeah sure, we can reverse that fee for you right now. I don't see like this is something you do all the time, everyone has a crappy day sometimes, right?"

Try that with BofA and they will laugh in your face.

i have actually heard that both that it is good to carry a balance, and that you should always pay it off monthly. to fight this confusion, i don't buy anything that i don't have money for in my bank account. i pay off charges whenever it is convenient, sometimes when they send a bill and sometimes before the charges even show up. all i know about my credit rating is that it is good. i have used my credit card extensively while traveling and living abroad so they definitely are aware of how much money they can make off me.

I think that is the smart way to use one.
I put ALL my month expenses on the card knowing full well the money is there, so I just do a transfer at the end of the month.
Used it for traveling as well.
Got a boat load of cash back when they paid out this year.

A local credit union would be infinitely better than Bank of America man. Get your money the hell away from those con artists.

Credit Unions are amazing. Usually come with ATM fee reinbursements, great interest rates, and simply joining one will improve your score a little. freecreditreport.com can give you your credit score, and a credit union rep can tell you where your outstanding debts are if you have any.

Yes, it is important to have a little in credit. You won't be able to take out bigger loans at good rates if you don't have credit history with a good score.

If you already have good history/credit, then you don't need to carry anymore.

Actually I have free access to over 26,000 atm's nation wide. Just make sure your CU is a member of the Co-Op network. If you can find a 7-11, you can score cash free and you can always find a 7-11
