Yes I have a dishwasher, but we've never used it for its intended purpose because my Mexican/indigenous wife (who grew up without indoor plumbing or electricity) will not use it.

When we met, in her village, she did the laundry beside a stream on a rock.

She uses the dishwasher to store pots, pans, the blender, the grill, and other items we don't use every day.

washing dishes at home, washing dishes at work, then washing more dishes at home. i fuckin hate it

growing up my parents had one for a while. hopefully i'll have one some day. if not, meh. if you keep your table clean enough who needs plates?
Also they have edible plates!
i hope they taste like communion wafers (with a little bit of wine they are divine)

I grew up with a dishwasher, but haven't had a machine since I moved out.
I like to do tedious stuff like pull weeds, but dish washing still isn't my favourite necessity of life. Here is a passage I try to put into practice be only washing the dishes when I'm washing the dishes. I hope it helps you folks without one too.

Quote:
Bathing a Newborn Buddha
by Thich Nhat Hanh

To my mind, the idea that doing the dishes is unpleasant can occur only when you are not doing them. Once you are standing in front of the sink with your sleeves rolled up and your hands in warm water, it really is not so bad. I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to go and have a cup of tea, the time will be unpleasant and not worth living. That would be a pity, for each minute, each second of life is a miracle. The dishes themselves and the fact that I am here washing them are miracles! Each bowl I wash, each poem I compose, each time I invite a bell to sound is a miracle, each has exactly the same value. One day, while washing a bowl, I felt that my movements were as sacred and respectful as bathing a newborn Buddha. If he were to read this, that newborn Buddha would certainly be happy for me, and not at all insulted at being compared with a bowl.

Each thought, each action in the sunlight of awareness becomes sacred. In this light, no boundary exists between the sacred and the profane. I must confess it takes me a bit longer to do the dishes, but I live fully in every moment, and I am happy. Washing the dishes is at the same time a means and an end that is, not only do we do the dishes in order to have clean dishes, we also do the dishes just to do the dishes, to live fully in each moment while washing them.

If I am incapable of washing dishes joyfully, if I want to finish them quickly so I can go and have a cup of tea, I will be equally incapable of drinking the tea joyfully. With the cup in my hands I will be thinking about what to do next, and the fragrance and the flavor of the tea, together with the pleasure of drinking it, will be lost. I will always be dragged into the future, never able to live in the present moment.

Dishwashers save water/are much more economical than washing by hand.

Nope I don't have on.

It's a money/space issue. Even if I had the money I wouldn't have any place to put it.

I'll manage. For now.

Didn't have one til I was 22, first time I used it I had put in regular hand dishwashing detergent and ended up flooding/sudsing my kitchen.

Went out and got the proper stuff after that.

But yes, I hate doing dishes by hand and cannot live without one now.

i found that you can only pull that one so many times before it is obvious you are just lazy. cooking a complete meal and handling all the cleaning certainly is a nicer gesture than cooking and then expecting someone to clean after you.

Yeah, it's like throwing a party and expecting your guests to clean up. You do the fun part and expect others to do the shitty part? Lame

I never understood what's so hard about cooking AND doing the dishes. I do the dishes/cleanup while things are a'cookin.

I have known family to volunteer and then help, say, after Thanksgiving dinner. That is much different though.
