Ben Haas fails at his attempt to burn the USA Flag at LSU 5/11/11

I don't even really have words yet to say how much this video sickens me right now. This nationalistic crap is just to much. Stepping on peoples rights just because they have a different view than you, or want to do something you don't respect, especially when completely legal, is just to much.

And I don't agree with the attempted flag burning, there are much better ways to get your point across. Just the whole reaction to this event makes me shake my head.

Wow, what an intense watch.
At least the cops where doing their jobs there.
They would have killed that guy for sure or damn near.

they are not even american, they are european immigrants that live in america, and all the wars these "americans" fought, was for freedom and the freedom to burn the flag, if they so choose

never understood flag burning. It's a piece of fucking fabric. And the dopes that are handing out flags most likely bought ones made in chinaland cuz they were cheaper... whole lotta silly in that video

What's this idiots problem?

Good way to make the whole country want to kill you. Dude needs to find other things to do with his time...maybe fishing or something...flag burning isn't the smartest idea.

Not to sound dickish but perhaps if immigrants wanted to be listened to tolerantly their first step should not be publicly burning the flag of their adoptive country.

Not that they don't have the right to mind, I just think it's counter-productive.

What's the story behind this anyway?

I'd say that's sound advice for anyone who wants to be understood and not just seen.

Some might find it silly, i at times find it silly, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the flag. I have a light on my flag at night, take it down during bad weather, and fold it appropriately. It sickens me to see people with flags on there cars all tattered. I don't always agree with my current government, but i feel the flag does not represent politics its history.

I would burn and piss on the confederate flag though

Did everyone have to say the pledge and listen to the anthem each morning in school, or is that regional?

I went to school with a friend in Iowa once when I was visiting and I swear they just got on with the day when the bell rang, no song, no pledge..... maybe my memory isn't completely clear or recalling all the facts.

Where I went to school both occurred, although on my own accord I stopped saying the pledge in 5th grade for religious reasons.

Flags are laden with symbolism, identity, and ideals. The cross is just pieces of wood, the kaba is just a bunch of bricks. It's what it represents.

I think it's silly aswell, and I'm sure that you know the "why" behind flag burning.

If not, I'll make damn sure you do real soon.

Oh yeah.

We had to too. Until I got to HS, but they asked you to stand even if you were not saying it, so as to not be disruptive?

I got into a fight in 10th grade with a kid, because he won't stand. He was just being a prick and giving the teacher a hard time, he was too stupid to be doing for any political or religious reasons

I think that is a question to me

Yes, in Elementary school I think I just stood, because I really didn't have any problem with the anthem or whatever but throughout middle and high school I experimented with trying to stay seated throughout the whole process, although most teachers, well all but one, asked of me to stand for conformists sake and to not 'start something'

These days, I stand for the anthems of Canada and the States since there isn't a pledge to follow them anymore. Really when it came down to it, it's the pledge I didn't want to say. The anthem just became part and parcel of exploration.

^ ^Maybe he had trouble with his parents dominating his life at home, and his only outlet for autonomy was to deny standing at school.

a continuation

The action of the crowd sickens me. That crowd would have torn that man apart and would have been cheered on by everybody there. He is continuously called a pussy yet he stands alone against an angry mob.

These people are not patriots. A true patriot understands ones freedom to free speech, and would let them man talk and have his peace. He would not be ready to cause violence, or support such actions against a fellow countryman.

The people in this crowd are idiots who are blind to the real detrimental and obvious things that are wrong with our country today, and are jumping on the chance to do nothing more than bandwagon with their friends against one lone man.

I do not hate our country, I hate what so many Americans are becoming. I don't condone burning a flag, but I do condone ones right to do such a thing. Beyond that, the man chose not to, or realized he could not do this, and was simply attempting to make a speech. Shit is beyond retarded.

Furthermore if Americans like the ones in the crowd watched a video of a man in the Middle East burn a Qua'ran, and then be swarmed on by an angry mob, who would deff beat the man, you can bet the insults would fly. FUcking double standards, once again.
