Wow I'm really surprised the RCMP would bother to even charge you. I guess because the security guard ratted you out to him so maybe he felt the need to act. Also, why is it even RCMP jurisdiction? Is it because the Canal is NCC property or something?

Ottawa police don't seem to give a shit about weed smoking from my experience, although I have had to pour out my liquor/beer on numerous occasions.

Trying to impress security I'm sure.

My own adage is 'you can only do one risky/dumb thing at a time without getting caught', now unfortunately who is defining 'risky/dumb' isn't always the constant....
And
I have no doubt the alcohol consumption is what bit you in the ass...

Now THAT is something the kids are serious about.

All that said, I hope everything bodes well for you and you only get fines and such, which is highly likely.

It was the joint in hand that they noticed, because I was holding it up in the air so the hasd/tobacco wouldnt fall out the end... My cider was below my feet, they could not have seen it until the security guy walked down to where I was sitting. But yeah, fucking RCMP trying to impress the security for sure. The whole damn fucking situation is whats bitting me in the ass...

Meeting with a defense lawyer on Monday. Hopefully some more peace of mind will come then. I hope the fines wont be too steep - I've only been working for 8 or so months after 4-4.5 years of college/uni education.

Meeting up with lawyer dude at 2:30pm today. Funny coincidence is that he runs his office out of the same building that my old psychiatrist runs her practice from.
