to save someone else?
Say if someone had fallen onto the tracks in a subway or train. Would you risk your life to try and save them even if there was a good chance you wouldn't survive? Would you do it without thinking? If you wouldn't risk your own life, would you feel guilty afterwards?

Such actions aren't born out of thought.

Well then, do you think you would react heroically or be a bystander in such a position?

To answer that question would require thought, and thus continue to put the scenario in the wrong context

It is just something that was brought into light recently for me.
to be honest i really would like to react in such a way, i dont know if i would, but i truly want to. I believe i would feel forever guilty if i stood by... but i dont know if that is true either. I believe it would be the right thing to do, along with the a possible noble and compassionate death... You could die at any moment, might as well make it a good one. at the same time i feel as though there is so much good i wish to do with my life it is a shame to throw that away. This kind of thinking is probably gonna get me run over by a train...

Knowing that I'm immortal, I'd like to think that I would help without thinking.

I think it's one of those things where you have to be in the situation and find out then. I know a lot of people who say they would and probably wouldn't in the heat of the moment, also I'm sure some would become unexpected heroes.

I did, once.
This lady hopped right off the curb to cross a street where you didn't cross when the bell rang. Because then the busses ran. She's holding her newborn keeps right on walking and I look at the bus driver who doesn't see her walking into his path. I bolt off the curb, grab her, she screams at me, and I pick her and the kid up and jump to the curb. Didn't even think about it. Just reacted. I slammed a shoplifter in the grocery store last year, too. He was charging to the front door and had already swung at two clerks trying to restrain him. He shoved a cart with a little girl in it, whipping her around 180 degrees, and she started to cry because she was startled. My Dad Alert went CODE RED. I was the last thing between him and the door to get away. No showdown. I went for him, and slammed him on the wall and then on the floor. I would give best efforts to save anyone in immediate danger, but I would be very prudent about action that could take me away from my wife and kid. |

I really couldn't say.
I know if it was some fat ugly bastard I probably wouldn't do a thing. If it was a middle aged woman who might be a mother, I probably would. Yeah, not all humans are equal to me. I wouldn't sacrifice myself for most of em.

I probably wouldn't get past being surprised before it was over, so probably not. Now, would I GIVE my life in exchange for another? Yes. My daughter.

I'd like to say I would.
I've never been in a situation where it was required though, so I can't really know. I do regularly get my first aid brushed up, so I'd like to think I'm prepared. It's just that at first aid courses, they always tell you not to risk your life. It obviously isn't as black and white as that. I dunno.

ive seen that episode of house, if thats what sparked this, fender. i really like the show because of the morality issues and ethical issues it discusses.
id probably do it. i might jump back out of the way if i was unable to get the person up off the ground or w/e happened in the show. im not saying i have hero blood but i did once pull a kids head out from between these bars at the mall i work in

Once I was walking through this park and saw a woman and her dog ahead. The dog was lying on its side and the woman comes running up to me in tears saying her dog is dying and she doesn't know what's wrong. And I go up the dog and kneel down and put my hand on him, and immediately he stands up and starts wagging his tail.
If I saw a dog on the tracks Id be like C'MERE boy! And that dog would come
