GOD DAMN IT! Physics 30
Getting SO fucking angry at my calculator.
Look at this shit. ( 1.6 x 10^(-18) ) / ( 1.6 x 10^(-19) ) = 1 x 10^(-37) WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?!?!? And another thing. Fucking textbook is fucking me up. Here's one question, and I swear they've got the wrong answer in the book: Calculate the net force on a sphere of charge of -5e and mass 2.0 x 10^(-14) kg when placed in an electric field of strength 1.0 x 10^(5) N/C [up] in a vacuum chamber. Being physics 30, we're required to determine the net force by adding the force of gravity to the electric force. So in this case, it seems the book is getting the direction of the vectors wrong because to my understanding, if the charge is negative (in this case, -5 x (1.6 x 10^(-19) C ) then the direction of the electric force will be opposite the direction of the electric field. SO since the direction of the field is up, then the direction of the force must be down, right? But the answer in the book is the one that you'd get if you figured that the direction of the force was up. But how can the direction of the force be up if the direction of the field is up and the charge is negative!? WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!??!

i got 1*10^1
havent started electricity, thats next quarter for me, but i think theres this right hand rule which might help you i think it might actually be perpindicular to the field. JUST GUESSING WAIT FOR MORE HELP if your calc is giving you a different answer buy another one. some calcs have literally no order of operations. they just go from left to right or w/e the TI-30xIIs is what i use, its like 12 usdollars on campus and most classes allow them

I stole one of those nice graphing calculators from some bitch who broke my heart.
Fair trade. those things fucking rock. I just put everything in parentheses or brackets, especially in physics, makes things work out well.

Yeah it is supposed to just be 10.
The calculator (it's a ti-83 graphing calc) was running out of batteries and maybe was making some mistakes because of that. Now it gives the correct answer. As for the question itself, even the documents covering the errata for this textbook don't seem to mention it. Yet somehow by using the procedures that have come to make sense to me, I get every other question in that unit right on the 1st try, so I've just said fuck it, fuck you stupid question, die. And now it's dead to me. Goal is to get 100% on the diploma. I will have that 100%.
