Security job rate of pay
This job I’m applying for asks me “What do you feel would be a minimally acceptable rate of pay? (ex. $8.00/hour or $25,000/year)”
I’m not trying to be greedy, but 8/hour isn’t gonna cut it. I don’t want to put too high of a number and fuck myself out of a job, but I don’t want to get shafted if they’re willing to pay X amount of money and I say X-3 or something, ya know. Any ideas about the rate of pay for a security job?

Wage rates for guards vary with different employers, with different industries and in different parts of the country. Typical starting wages for guards with little or no experience are minimum wage to $12.00 an hour. Wages for experienced guards are $12.00 to $19.50. Armed guards generally earn more than unarmed guards. Fees paid to guard services vary from about $25 to $30/hr for a regular trained guard up to $40 to $50/hr for an armed guard.
The following statistics are nationwide averages: * Median annual earnings of security guards were $23,460 in May, 2008. * The middle 50 percent earned between $19,150 and $30,100. * The lowest 10 percent earned less than $16,680 * The highest 10 percent earned more than $39,360. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of security guards in May, 2008 were as follows: * Elementary and secondary schools $27,980 * General medical and surgical hospitals $29,020 * Local government $27,660 * Traveler accommodation $25,660 * Investigation and security services $22,170 * Gaming surveillance officers and gaming investigators had median annual earnings of $28,850 in May, 2008. * The middle 50 percent earned between $23,000 and $37,690. * The lowest 10 percent earned less than $19,290 * The highest 10 percent earned more than $48,310. Since guards are needed around the clock, they may be assigned to any eight-hour shift or to rotating shifts. At least two-thirds of the work is at night. Guards may also work any day of the year. Employers sometimes pay higher rates for night shifts and sometimes for holidays. Most contract guards (those employed by an outside service agency) and some in-house guards work on-call or part time for at least their first 90 days. Guards who do well on these assignments can move into full-time, permanent positions when they are available. Equipment costs might include uniforms, two-way radios, batons (nightsticks), handcuffs, bullet-proof vests, and weapons (pepper spray, stun guns, stun batons and spray batons). Usually the employer provides the equipment, except for firearms, and many employers provide uniforms and uniform cleaning allowances. Citations: Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Employment Statistics, May 2009 Edition, Security Guards and Gaming Surveillance Officers, on the Internet at Security Guards and Gaming Surveillance Officers (visited February 18, 2011).

It doesn't really say what the job is more than saying it's patrolling grounds, opening gates and watching cameras.
Not sure about what the actual place I'd be securing is.

Security guards are pretty much the most fucked subdivision of trained labor. I worked for three security companies right after I left the police academy, and every one of them fucked over their employees in any way they could when it came to pay. If they put you on salary, expect to work 60hrs a week. If they pay you hourly, expect to be put on salary. They are totally aware that, on salary, they can work you for as many hours as they want, so long as the hourly breakdown doesn't go under the minimum wage, and they will take advantage of that fact in every way they can.

Yeah I said between $9 and $11.
Next question: I have a really shitty work history. 6 months at a McDs that I got fired from in January of 2007 1 month at a printing company that I quit and burned some bridges in July of 2007 Should I just omit that information? It really can't help to put that I haven't had a job in 4 years. Quote:
As long as it pays, I'm willing to pretty much anything except work in food service. I need a job and I need to get some better job history.

I got fired for stealing.
That was the official reason at least. What had happened was this: I worked in the food court of a mall. Homeless people would chill in the food court for the whole day to get out of the weather or whatever. Also, we had a high instance of mentally disabled people who just kicked it in the food court. One kid was probably 17, I'm not sure if he was homeless or retarded or both, but he was at least one of them. Anyway, I was closing one night in about a week after New Years and a group of people ordered a bunch fries like 5 minutes before official closing time, so I had to drop an entire bag of fries in the fryer. As I was prepping them with salt and everything they "changed their minds" asked for their money back and walked away. So I get ready to throw them away, as that's store policy. 17-18 year old kid was in the court the whole time. He walks up and is like, "listen man, I know you're not supposed to give food away but can I have some of those before you throw them out?" So I gave him a large fry and some ketchup packets. And then I finished my work and went home. And then the next morning I walked into the store. And got fired for giving away food and "stealing from the company" But really the new manager had some issues with me that I didn't know about at the time, and he just wanted to wait until after the holiday season to fire me and he saw that as an opportunity and jumped at it.
