The 3DS has grabbed headlines recently, though not in the way the Nintendo would have wanted. The troubled device will be getting a price cut in August, dropping from $249.99 to $169.99. The move means Nintendo will be losing money on the hardware, which in turn effects the company's earnings forecast. Today, company president Satoru Iwata spoke to shareholders in Tokyo, accepting responsibility for the 3DS and its recent troubles. In addition, Iwata said that he and other executives will be taking significant pay cuts.

For Iwata, that translates to a 50 percent cut from his annual salary of approximately $2 million. Directors close to the project will see a 30 percent pay cut, and other executives will get their pay reduced by 20 percent.

"We decided that if we take brave measures now," Iwata wrote in a letter, "there's high likelihood that a many players can enjoy the Nintendo 3DS in the future."

I remember when I read something a few weeks ago titled something along the lines of "Even Ocarina of Time Can't Save the 3DS".

I've had every gameboy before it as well, and haven't felt compelled at all to get this one, even though the Zelda series was a huge part of my childhood.


For 170 it's certainly more tempting, but I feel like I'm having just as much fun with my Spotify invite, and that shit was free

they certainly fucked up with this one, i just hope they reduce the price over here in the UK too. ive noticed the adverts for it dont even mention its 3D capabilitys anymore, its like theyve realised nobody gives a shit about 3D gaming

Nintendo probably could have rid themselves of the trouble had they not released such a piece of shit gaming console.

I've played the 3DS, my little sister got it for her birthday and it was probably the most disappointing 250$ present an 11 year old could get.

The "3D" only works if you are looking DIRECTLY AT THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN. Meaning you basically have to hold the damn thing right up to your face to play it at all. Not to mention the weak starting roster of games, Nintendo up to its old tricks of bastardizing past games which should have long since been dead and played on retro consoles or emulators, and a creepy social networking system that seems to me to be remarkably marketed towards pedophiles.

ive never actually seen a 3DS in action come to think about it. i just kinda assumed it would be the ultimate stoned gaming experience. am i completely off base?

plus i recently looked at the library of games released so far and its complete shit

i'll probably wait a few years, i might get a used DS cuz i never got around to all of the amazing games that came out as exclusives

im sure the 3DS will be amazing, every handheld nintendo has ever made has been 10/10 (i even liked virtual boy, yes indeed i did), but i gotta give this one awhile

3ds sounded kinda cool but I guess I'm among the many that couldn't be bothered to give a fuck.

I've always liked handhelds, even in days where I've stopped giving a shit about consoles.

The guy doing demos at walmart couldnt even get me to entertain his schpeel.

I bet 3DS will be alot more popular a few years down the line when theyre like 90 bucks a piece. nintendo released to many varients of the DS for people to give a shit about getting it at the moment. hell i'd rather have a DSi XL over a 3DS.
