That page is about the world and its sphericalness. we wouldn't need time zones if it wasn't a sphere. actually, its an oblate spheroid, but my point remains the same.

the link is apt.

I'll have to believe you since your the expert on spherical objects...

(balls!!)

Also: Are you admitting belief in magic, by not disputing JFK labeling of the Earth as a "Magic Rotating Ball"? (obvious troll is obvious)

I can throw a proper 12-6 curveball and I also have balls, so I guess you could say that.

And I chose to not perceive the magic part.

What if the earth was the shape of crumpled up paper? Would we need time zones then?

As long is it isn't flat, we need time zones.

A flat earth in orbit would still rotate causing night and day on each side. As long as we orbit the sun we need time zones.

Well we could rotate at a frequency that made it so the one side always faced the sun as we orbited.

The flat earth people assume that we only inhabit one side.

There turtles and elephants on the other.

The flat Earth would have 1 standard time. the sun would be overhead at noon for the entire thing at the same time. And to assume we inhabit both sides of the flat Earth is asinine. Even the crazy people that think the Earth is actually flat don't go that far.

This is the flat Earth according to the crazy people. We only inhabit 1 side.

1) We're not factoring philistinistic beliefs into this because frankly I don't give a shit about them.

2) Assuming we're hypothesising in a universe that adheres to three dimensions, then a flat earth would be a disc (or shallow cylinder). A disc would have three sides. Not all three sides, or 50% of one side depending on it's specific orbit, would be able to face the sun simultaneously.

3) Profit.

You can't just make up your own flat Earth to make a point.

Time zones were implemented so there could be a standardized system for keeping time while not fucking up the preexisting local solar time schedule. The the Sun would be overhead at noon for all inhabited points of the flat Earth, negating the usefulness of time zones. The other sides would have their own time for research and exploration and shit, but that is irrelevant here.
