Wasted a perfectly good doctors visit

So I went to the clinic last friday just to get a regular check up that I scheduled for myself. I haven't been to the doctor in 10 years and that was just for a physical so I could play high school sports.

Anyway, once I met the doctor it became abudantly clear that check ups are pretty much worthless. I just sat there talking to the doctor about minor discomforts that I feel from time to time and he couldn't tell me shit about it. He took my blood pressure, listened to my heart and lungs with a stethoscope and felt my throat with his hands. Basically he looked me over and told me I'm fine.

But is that really the point of health care? I was expecting him to run tests and shit and seek out areas that can be improved. I was HOPING he would give me a list of things I need to be doing to get healthIER, but no. He basically looked at me with a blank stare like "What is this young healthy man doing here wasting my time when I have a lobby full of dying senior citizens?".

I felt jipped like I don't want to just wait until something is wrong until I really have to go to the doctor. I want a fucking PLAN to stay healthy.

healthcare > sickcare

did you ask any questions? they are doctors, not witches. that can't read your mind.

well it's 2011 i figured they would do more than poke and prod me. there was hardly a scientific approach whatsoever. i'm going back to get a blood test, that should help tell if there are any underlying problems.

but realistically, if i were, say, an astronaut, you can best believe i would be getting a REAL medical evaluation. that's what the fuck i want. i want to be hooked up to machines and have diagnostics run like the bionic man. then i want a data sheet.

maybe you should contract a life threatening illness if you are so jealous of the cancer patients hogging all the doctors' time

If you want a plan to stay healthy, maybe you should see a nutritionist or a trainer or something... or you know... if that doesn't work, do the obvious and eat healthy and exercise?

those "non scientific" methods are actual tests the doctor was running

if something was bad with one of the simple tests, like feeling the throat for enlarged lymphnodes, then more tests would have been justified.

I wish I could get a blood test periodically and they'd read my stats and tell me which ways I suck and which ways I'm awesome.

periodic checkups are cheap and brief because that's what they are intended to be.

It gives you face time with the doctor so you can inform him/her of any new problems you may have developed. The doctors exam is therefore to look for the obvious problems you may be unaware of.

for example....if you told the doc you lack energy, or always feel hyper, or are having unprotected sex with the neighbors monkey, these things would probably warrant further (more expensive) examination and testing.

I always wrap it up when I fuck the neighbor monkey. But the doctors still want to test me.

When I went in about 6 years ago they did do blood tests on me for cholesterol and all that stuff (which was impeccable btw) Everything came back really good.

I was happy to have the work done because I'd been vegetarian for about 3 years at that point and was curious for some science.

I don't even think I asked for the blood work... they just did it.

But I am not sure I got an awesome rating on mine
