fear not, chimps are indeed better than most humans at that sort of snap info gathering.

we have things we're better at and a chimp would struggle with as well. language for example.

we also beat the shit out of them at genocide.

Try to catch it in your peripheral vision. That will allow your superior colliculus to recognize the numbers. It is a part of the brain used in object recognition, especially with a fleeting image. That should help.
