So, on the 26th I went with a buddy to the Hot Box Cafe. Toronto's only(?) pro-marijuana cafe. Heh. We left London at 11am to take a four hour drive to a place to do something I do every day in the comfort of my home. They have a pot-io out back, where you can just go and toke up.

I love the location of it; Kensington Market... In between St. Andrews and Baldwin.

It's pretty nice. I enjoyed the Amsterdam Cafe in Vancouver more though.

If you have to go out back to toke, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Neither of these places sells herb or allows selling inside.

You smoke inside the cafes.
(Which is where they have hit a wall with 'no indoor smoking laws' and the law... although they are laxly enforced, if ever at all.)

You can drink your coffee, eat your what evers and smoke out of what you'd like.


Imo, it's more of a passive civil disobedience and/or statement of normalcy.

The coffee was REALLY good at the Amsterdam Cafe, so I'd stop in there pretty regularly and get a cup and pass a joint around with some folks.

REALLY funny to watch people come in their first time.
Especially when they tried to buy weed standing under the 'we don't sell herb' sign.

And I'm NEVER seen anyone carted off by the 5.0 or anything like that.

Also... the prices inside are normal cafe prices imo....
Heck... I think the Amsterdam had THE best nachos I ever ate, at the lowest price to boot!




tl;dr

You can smoke inside, despite or in spite of the law.
You can NOT buy herb there.

I shit you not, 6 months ago I sat in there, had coffee with a friend and smoked two bowls and not one told us any different man, nor the several other people doing the same

Is this a new thing?

SURELY someone would have stopped us if it wasn't okay, right?

I'm only speaking from experience... and 6 months ago, no one stopped me or anyone else in there from smoking their bowls.

What do you figure the deal is?

I used to collect the recycling, as part of my job, at the Vancouver Compassion Club, which has been in business for over 15yrs and also has a full menu.

The difference is up here...

When we used the bong it was just a smallish bubbler type (acrylic tube with a carb) and we weren't filling the place with big obnoxious clouds of smoke. so that probably had something to do with it. I might be going to Toronto this weekend, I'm going to hit that place up. And I need to go to the Friendly Stranger so I can look at glass. They have a better selection that any place in Ottawa.

^ Friendly stranger is overpriced, I would recommend checking out cloud nine or theirs another one on queen more in the east end I can't remember the name of but they have a great selection of glass.

Cloud nine doesn't have the largest selection but they do have nice pricing
