Pffft. I have to work harder on labor day for some reason.... Funny article though. So true. And unemployment at 9.1%? BS! Double that.

me n dude at work was talking..apparently they don't even count the kids who graduated college and hold degrees but don't have jobs in the "unemployed" margin. I'm talking about the people who are "over-qualified"

they have some other stupid margin to throw them in..."jobless" or some such nonsense.

if they did that the rate would be much higher.

that phrase is so 2008.

now they are called underemployed.

that is when they do start working.

Fuck yeah it matters...

It is the noticeable end to the summer (live in a tourist town)...
End of the summer festivals (Bumbershoot)...
The start of the NCAA Football and a week later the NFL season(s)...

But then again I work 2 jobs, so I wouldn't know anything about sitting on my ass worrying about a holiday that isn't meant for me......

this is exactly the point i was talking about.

its funny how some people are like selective in the events they want to remember.

its great to commemorate the stonewall riots, the start of the 40 hour work week, the fact that children dont work in factories in america anymore...

but other people are like, um, why dont we have a daily celebration of the discovery of dna or the launch of the hubble space telescope or the adopting of the declaration of independance...

these long ago events happened, nobody denies them, and most people think they were mostly good things that have led to a progressive world that we live in... where things get better over time.

but so if there are people out there who are like celebrating the day roe v wade came down or celebrating that kids dont have to work in textile factories anymore- you might as well celebrate the first use of antibiotics to combat diseases- everybody realizes these things, and the only people who would go out and have a big celebration about them are interest groups that are agitating for new, less widely agreed upon, and less easily accepted, "rights", and being like activist and shit.

i guess they have every right to do it, but i have every right to see the calculating and self interested bs they are trying to pull and call em on it.

and hence, democracy

ps. this can clearly apply to either side of the political spectrum

until there is a real labor movement again in the country, it's just a cynical weekend.
