i think about random shit I wish I had done already. I also I take a certain memory and break it down detail by deail. when you cant sleep and keep tossing and turning, what happens each time you move around is that your brain is sending a signal to your body to check if you are awake or asleep. if you move that means you are still awake, if you stay still you are tired enough to sleep. to fall asleep you need to lie on your back with your hands at your sides and just lie there, dont move. after a while you will want to move. do not move at all, not even a finger. keep doing this until you fall asleep or until you feel really, really tired. then slowly turn to the side and again dont move a muscle. you will soon fall asleep.

also have a wank, i find it always helps.

what fixed me?

exercise and a job that beats the living daylights out of me.

the exercise makes it so that i can actually live and function after the workday stresses me out and uses stores of neurochemicals and other such things, so that by the time i get off of work, i'm ready to hit the sack, and wake up at 3 a.m. for television, yahooka, and heading to the park by 5.

this is a little extreme, i agree.

but the gist is awesome-get you a job that wears you out. you'll hate it during, but i definitely don't come home and toss and turn any more.

This is a good thread, as I've often wondered this myself.
For me, I think about music, and how the mixes I heard that day could have been better/different, how I could improve a freestyle, and how I can apply the insight I've gained through music to my every day life.
or I wonder where my shoes are, get up to find them, then go paint the town red, or whatever color I've got on hand.
I wonder what everyone else is doing at that moment, and who has what to say about a given topic, which usually leads to texting them to ask, which definitely doesn't help me fall asleep, but I can sleep when I'm dead.

actually it's the reverse that bothers me. When not smoking cannabis, I sleep only for about 2 hour periods at a time and always have totally disconnected dreams...meaning disconnected from reality.

probably 3 or more different dreams a night.

When smoking, I stay asleep and do not have said dreams.

The past few times I couldnt fall asleep I think about a place that I used to know very well, and old house, a friends house, a old job, and try and think of every detail of that places. Last week i could not sleep so I thought about a restaurant I worked in, I went from the freezer to the prep kitchen, thinking about everything from how the water pooled in the far left corner of the freezer. How meticulous I kept all of my meats, and produce. That usually works for me, I try to keep all other thoughts out and just focus on one thing.
