Welcome to the genomic revolution

Richard Resnick: Welcome to the genomic revolution | Video on TED.com

Pretty crazy.

Pretty soon all a doctors visit will consist of a dna swab. Could be done anywhere on earth easily and sent to a lab for quick review.

So yeah looks like the human population is gonna get huuuuuuge.

What the guy says about G.E. foods is interesting to. Im obviously warey of it b/c of the current monopolization of the market, but really is there any other way to feed the masses?

WE MUST STOP THESE CORPORATIONS BEFORE THEY OWN OUR DNA

There are plenty of ways to increase food production hugely with or without GM food, that whole debate is kind of academic atm imo.

Monoculture and monopoly need avoiding though.

Anyone ever read Rogue Trooper?

I used to be anti-globalization but now I think it's just so remarkably obvious that it is the ultimate solution to human existance on this planet.

you would say that, as a first world, white male.

/not that i can come up with much better, that doesn't involve massive sterility/final solution type scenarios.

The whole argument of population control is so outlandishly paranoid. Population control kicks in all by itself once a population has reached a maximum capacity. It's not as if the planet could possibly get to a point that it's "bursting at the seams" with human beings. As if we're going to be overcrowding terrafirma and spilling into the oceans and into outter space.

Mother nature controls how much of anything can exist at any place on earth. Food supplies, disease, natural resources, climate change, etc all set a very definite limit on how populated a place will be.

Not to mention factors of human intelligence and ingenuity which will undoubtely find solutions across the board to control population that DOESN'T include out and out genocides.
